TRURO SCHOOL RUGBY REQUIREMENTS FOR MATCHES AND PRACTICES

Players must attend all practices and matches when required by the member of staff in charge of the team. Training times will be displayed in the Sports Clubs and Practices list on the Autumn Term Calendar. When selected for a school team, players are expected to attend training and matches.

It is the responsibility of all players to regularly look at the team lists and other information relating to the team on the Rugby notice board at the Sports Centre.

If a player cannot attend a practice or match they must notify their coach at the earliest opportunity by means of a letter from parents. It is not acceptable to excuse themselves either at late notice or via another pupil or fail to attend without good reason.

All coach transport to matches will leave school from the Railings on St Clements Hill.

All minibus transport to matches will leave school from the Old Sports Hall car park.

It is the responsibility of all players to ensure they clearly understand the transport arrangements for away matches and arrive 10 minutes prior to departure.

Full school tracksuits (top and trousers) are to be worn when travelling to away matches. Boys should not travel in playing kit and shorts without a tracksuit. This information will be given on the team list displayed in the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre.

TRURO SCHOOL RUGBY

A PARENT’S AND SPECTATOR’S CODE

In all rugby matches involving Truro School players:

Act as positive role models to all young players.

Acknowledge good individual and team performance from ALL youngsters irrespective of which team they play for.

Respect match officials decisions. REMEMBER they are volunteers providing an opportunity for youngsters to play rugby.

Never verbally abuse young players, match officials, fellow spectators or coaches. Such behaviour can create a negative environment for young players and their behaviour will often reflect this.

Acknowledge effort and good performance rather than the "in at all costs" ethic. Keep winning and losing in perspective, encouraging young players to behave with dignity in all circumstances.

Verbally encourage youngsters in a positive way. If you do want to shout make sure it is "for" and not "at" the players.

Condemn bad language, inappropriate behaviour and violence.

Encourage all youngsters irrespective of their ability – never ridicule any individual player, regardless of the team they play for.

Thank you for your co-operation and we look forward to your continued support

on the touchlines.

TRURO SCHOOL RUGBY

A PLAYER’S CODE

Positive and sportsmanlike behaviour should be exhibited by being

courteous to the opposing team, recognition of good play, thanking referees and opposing team after the match.

Deliberate violence of any sort is unacceptable.

Verbal provocation, and response to such provocation, is unacceptable.

Bad language, whether directed at another player, referee or yourself is unacceptable.

Play to the laws of the game and accept, without question, all the referee’s decisions. The referee’s decision is always final and not to be contested.

Behave with dignity in all circumstances, be a good sportsman whether you win or lose.
