We need to find a new way to bolster our “emergency fund”. In the past we held raffles each club general meeting to raise funds for this purpose. We are asking all our membership…. Let us know—Terri Gregson From the Editor—Starting with this issue we have added a new section to Ruff Notes. It is “Every Dog Has A Story”. The 3,000 Strong group of Golden Retriever owners have done this with their Facebook page and we have enjoyed learning about the other dogs in the study. I thought our club would enjoy this. Read about our first two dogs on page 2. I hope more members will join and be willing to share their dog’s story.—Garth Gregson

Jack and Barbara Skaggs A while after losing my Cody, a beautiful Golden Retriever, I started my search for a Golden puppy. The search ended at Shyan Golden Retrievers in Salem, OR When I picked Jack up, the breeder gave me information about the Morris Ani-mal Foundations' Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. The Study is following 3,000 Goldens for their lifetime in an effort to better understand cancer and other illnesses in all dogs, not just Goldens. I enrolled Jack and he became hero dog number 2995.

Jack is so smart, curious, mischievous, and always happy. He enjoys just about everything, car rides, running in the surf, walks, classes. His special favorite things are anything involving treats and spending time with his favorite people. I am thankful to have Jack in my life. He makes me smile. He is my best friend. —— Barbara Skaggs

Murphy and Donna Gorman and Lynn Steele Murphy was a rescue brought in to a school where Lynn was working. The par-ent who had the puppy was finding him to be too much work, and wanted to give him away. Of course, Lynn brought him home. The plan was to give him to Donna’s sister who was looking for a companion for her older dog. Donna took one look at the puppy’s adorable little face and fell in love. Despite the loss of many shoes, and a couch permanently, we all survived his puppyhood.

When Murph was 3 he had 4 discs that ruptured, and a blood clot from a degenerative disc disease. After surgery, he still could not walk but that did not stop Murphy! He is still the alpha dog at our home and now lives like a king senior dog! ——Donna Gorman

Wonderful time was had by all, from the opener guessing what dog breed was on our backs to the

awesome food we all ate. Perhaps we can practice our AKC dog groups before next year… lets see terrier, toy,

working, sporting, hound, non-sporting, herding. Not actually chewing, chasing or shedding—ha! Ha!
