VARIETAL COMPOSIT ION:Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah, and small amounts of Alicante and Petit Verdot
VIN EYARDS:Grape sourcing: Ruffi no’s La Solatia estate in Monteriggioni, Siena, and Poggio Casciano, Florence
Soils: Abundant galestro rock and a moderate amount of clay
Altitude: 820–1,100 feet above sea level
Growing system: Cordon trained
Vine density: 6,000–10,000 per acre
VIN IF ICAT ION AND AGING:Harvest: The 2016 harvest began at the end of August for the Merlot and continued until the fi rst week of October for the Sangiovese and Syrah.
Fermentation: The wine was fermented in stainless-steel vats at 82°F for 8–10 days. Maceration on the skins continued for another 7 days.
Aging: After completing malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for about 12 months.
Alcohol content: 13.5% by volume
SENS ORY PROPERTIES :Color: Ruby red
Aroma: The bouquet is very intense and pleasantly complex, with notes of cassis, cherry jam, plum, and vanilla. Syrah offers pleasant spicy notes, while the Sangiovese brings red and black fruit and herbs, and the Merlot adds its characteristic roundness.
Tasting profi le: A modern Tuscan wine born from Ruffi no’s century-old winemaking tradition, our 2016 Il Ducale is a well-balanced, full-bodied, harmonious wine with a pleasant freshness. The fi rst notes are bright and fruity with round, elegant tannins. The fi nish is long and satisfying with refi ned notes of ripe fruit, black pepper, and vanilla.
