Editor’s Letter

Dear Everyone, Hope you are all keeping well. I know that some of you will have met up with your families and have had an amazing time. This last weekend was the first time that everyone has stayed overnight for 9 months and a great time was had by all. The younger grand children loved exploring their bedroom and reacquainting themselves with gran and grandpa’s toys. They were a little tentative at first, checking where they were allowed to go. It brought back memories of the garden Christmas, when the three year old suddenly appeared with a cuddly toy……”I went upstairs by mistake,” he explained. It has been a difficult and very sad 15 months. Thankfully it will soon be over, but the need to take care will not leave us, in a hurry. Having said that, it was brilliant to go for a meal in the Bos-ville when we were allowed to go indoors, rather than shivering in the garden!. Thanks to Sharon and Martin once again for the wonderful hospitality they continue to offer. Yet another newsletter is published without information about village activities. We will have more news about Village Hall activities next month, hopefully. As you can see, we still haven’t received a moving date, so are able to produce the newsletter. No one has come forward to offer to take on the job of edit-ing and printing, so we are repeating the request for volunteers. See page ** Thanks once again to all the people who send articles, all those who do deliveries and Shirley Harland who proof reads the newsletter. Good luck to all those youngsters who are doing exams and welcome to any new comers to our friendly village. Sorry it’s a bit late this month, the print room boy forgot to order paper (You can’t get the staff!) Sue Tompkin Email: [email protected] tel: 420705

Curate’s Message It has been nearly a year since becoming the new Curate at All Saints Church and although my initial time here has been through the worst of the lockdown there has been much to be thankful about in Rudston. I have witnessed a strong sense of community in the village and certainly where I have been able to speak with people a sense of resolve at getting through these difficult times: I am due to be ordained as a priest in All Saints church, Kil-ham, on the 4th July meaning that I will be able to officiate at weddings and at Communion. I am like many who are hoping at such celebratory times we can begin to meet together with fami-lies, friends and the wider community to rejoice, socialise and have time spent together which has been sorely missed. I look forward to meeting more of you as the restrictions are lifted. Revd Alan Leach

We have had no committee meetings to date so there are no plans afoot for fund raising. How-ever please put your thinking caps on and come up with some ideas to hold events safely and suc-cessfully in order to support the Church.

We are again getting many visitors to the Monolith from all over the country who find our sur-roundings and views from the Church beautiful. I took 3 of my old college friends from Essex and Epsom to see it on Sunday after a pleasant Sunday meal at the Bosville. The Monolith is fascinating and we are fortunate to have such an attraction in our village. Please contact me if you have any good fundraising ideas.

Thanks for all your support in the past. June Sellers 01262 420237

Our first meeting together will be at Low Caythorpe in the garden on Tuesday July 6th at 2.30 p.m. Members are asked to let June know if you are coming by Friday 2nd July.

The June Federation newsletters will be delivered by early June and members are asked to decide how to vote on the National Resolution before the end of June. Please read your newsletter when it arrives as it is full of information regarding the W.I.

Some W.I.s are making plans to resume conventional meet-ings and we will do so as soon as we know the village hall is availa-ble for meetings.

RUDSTON NEWSLETTER

Volunteers required for editing and printing

and Treasurer.

This is a monthly edition which is delivered to every house and outlying farms in the area. There are 10 edi-tions a year ( None August and Janu-ary). When ready the newsletter is proof read by Shirley Harland. Although Nick and I do the editing and printing, there is no reason why these two operations can be done totally sep-arately. The Newsletter has its own printer and a computer. We do an average of 250 copies each month. There are many reliable deliverers. We also print 220 copies of the Burton Fleming news-letter, for which they pay, that going to towards our costs. We have enjoyed doing this for 7 years, but it is now time to pass the job onto someone else, as we are sadly leaving the village. If you would like to know any more details, Please email Sue and Nick ([email protected]) or ring 420705

COFFEE MORNINGS AT

THE VILLAGE HALL Coffee mornings will hopefully recommence

soon, as life slowly returns to some sort of

normality.

These events are run entirely voluntarily by

members of the village, who supply cakes,

biscuits etc. and serve on a Thursday morning.

Any expenses can be reimbursed.

We are short of volunteers at the moment, so if

you are able to bake a cake and pour out a cup

of tea, we would very much welcome you.

A note of congratulations to the Bosville Arms

Thank you for a lovely Sunday meal at the Bosville to cele-brate 3 friends due to become 70 soon. 4 of us had had a joint 21st party in the Towers Refectory at Loughborough College in June 1972 as we were students there at the time, training to be teachers. We have kept in touch over the years and had a reunion to celebrate our 60th birthdays with partners in Cambridge 10 years ago. It was decided to meet up again to celebrate becoming 70.

At my suggestion to save cancellations etc. I thought it best for 3 of them to stay at the Foremans House and as I didn't want to be ca-tering all week end decided on Fish and Chips for Satur-day night after a walk on Bridlington beach . Following a walk at Filey on the Brigg and a trip to Flamborough Head to see the caves and seals we had our Sunday roast at the Bosville along with Prosecco and much chatter.

The staff were very friendly, courteous and efficient . The pub looked great with its new refurbishment and decor and very welcoming and full of atmosphere with groups eating and drinking. We had told our friends about how it had become a community pub and were pleased to show it off to them and proud that it has become so successful through the hard work of the staff there. Thanks to the Bosville our reunion week end was complete with no cooking or washing up for me. Thank you and congratulations all round. We will return .

From June Sellers and 4 fellow retired teachers.

Carer and cleaner needed temporary, about 4 weeks. Local preferred. References required. Please ring 01262 420410. Pauline Warters
