There is plans to use the data that is collected in an effort to identify the injury prevention needs for the Region and work to provide injury efforts based on those.

Regional Summary:

As of October 2018, Dr. Dunne stepped down as the chair for the RTAC. Dr. Alexis Gage, a trauma surgeon at Memorial Health, has stepped up as the chair for the RTAC- she was voted in at the region IX meeting. Dr. Gage has a strong background in public health and is excited to work with the region as we move forward. The region’s trauma plan will be published and voted upon at the next regional EMS meeting in January. The plan has not been updated since 2015, and we are currently waiting on feedback from the regional EMS directors before publishing. Stop the Bleed has been extremely successful in our region, schools were completed on 8/1/2018. We have begun to train school bus drivers, however equipment and volunteers continue to be a challenge. Out of the 25 school districts, thirteen have be completed, six are scheduled, three are looking for makeup dates due to Hurricane Michael, two we have not heard back from, and one will not participate. We are still waiting for the invoice to be paid

The region is in dire need of new Stop the Bleed training equipment. The current materials are being used 3-4 times a week. There is need for office space at Memorial- but the trauma services office is currently overflowing. Support from EMS council with Stop the Bleed Training

from our Region J council for private schools. Hospitals will begin to be trained following the region J meeting on December 12, 2018. Our region is working with Memorial health to conduct injury prevention research into pedestrian vs MVC collisions—we have been heat-mapping the last three years of data and are currently waiting for IRB approval. Due to a void in mass casualty training, our RTAC partnered with Savannah Police, GEMA/HS, Savannah Fire, Chatham EMS, the FBI and Fort Stewart EMS to create an Active Threat/ Mass casualty committee. The committee has over thirty ‘members at large’ and is focusing on major events in Chatham County in 2019 with the attempt to expand regionally in 2020.
