The two gospel passages that were read on September 15, 2011 and September 25, 2011
were both from the book of Matthew. The passage on September 15, 2011 was talking about how
we are called by God one by one in different times and in different places. It talks about us, as
Catholics, must deliver and serve the word of the Lord. We must live everyday as an example
and as living proofs that Gods will exists. But we are not all called at once. Some are called
earlier than others and some are called much later than others. We must keep an open heart and
ears to the coming calling of the Lord. The gospel says that each of us will be called someday,
some might be called as early as birth and some might be called as late as before passing away.
We all have different times in life and different times of purpose so we must be ready at all times
to serve and receive Gods words.
The passage that was read on September 25, 2011 also came from the book of Matthew.
The passage tells us about a story about a father and his two sons which lives in a farm. The
father calls out to one son at a time and asks them to work on the fields. One son says No, I will
not work on the fields today, he leaves and later on ends up working on the fields all day. The
other son says Yes father, I will do as you ask and work on the field today, he leaves and later
does the exact opposite and does not work on fields. With this story the apostles ask which one is
the better son, the first one who said no but eventually worked on the fields o r the one that said
yes but did the exact opposite and did not work on the fields. The first son is the better of the
two, even though to his fathers eyes he was the lesser of the two he is the one who ended up
doing what was ask of both of them. The priest also talk about how there is one most important
sense we have to us Catholics. There are five senses: the sense of touch, the sense of smell, the
sense of sight, the sense of hearing, and the sense of taste. To use Catholics the sense of sight isthe most important because to us to see is to believe, we are only able to completely truly believe
when we see things for ourselves. But compared to the Israelites the most important sense to
them is the sense of hearing, because to them they wait for the calling of the Lord. They might
not be able to see God but they believe that one day they will be called by him, and they will
listen.

In both gospel passages from two consecutive weekends of mass, talks about the calling
of God to us. That we must be prepared with open hearts and open ears to listen to him. We
might not be able to see him and we dont know when he will be calling for us, but either way
we must be open and always be ready to be called by him.
