Dear Fellow Engineers, My heartfelt greetings to all of you and happy to meet you all through this medium. I am extremely happy to inform you that the Fourth IE(I) Tamilnadu State Centre Student’s & Technicians’ Convention on the theme 'Innovation, Technology and Knowledge Economy’ hosted by IE(I) Hosur Local Centre at Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur on 23 rd and 24 th March 2018, in a grand manner. I request my team members to focus on approaching the Engineering Colleges and Polytechnic Colleges and urge the CEOs of the colleges to establish Students' Chapter at their colleges. Continuous follow-up will yield good results in this regard. I request my member friends to bring in more and more new members into the fold of IEI with a slogan ‘EVERY MEMBER INDUCT A NEW MEMBER’ to double the strength. Let us all unite to boost the membership strength of IEI. Dr. G Ranganath Chairman World Water Day 22.03.2018 The Tamilnadu State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) observed the World Water Day on the theme “Nature for Water” on Thursday the 22 nd March 2018 at the IE(I)-TNSC Auditorium in association with IE(I) Kanchepuram Local Centre. At the outset, Dr R Venkatesan, Chairman IE(I) Kanchepuram Local Centre welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest Er G S Saxena, Vice President-Engineering (India Cluster),VA Tech Wabag Limited, Chennai. Er T M Gunaraja, Council Member, IE(I) TNSC briefed about the theme of the World Water Day. At the outset Er G S Saxena expressed his gratitude for having given a chance to deliver a lecture on the auspicious day of World Water Day. “Water, being basic essential for life, and with growing urbanisation, its availability has continuously declined. The talk was on adoption of nature-friendly advanced technologies for recycling of waste water for various re-use purposes. Looking at future, we are striving for 24x7 supply of quality water. Therefore, it is essential to conserve water by recycling through nature-friendly technologies. (contd. on page 2)

Technology and Knowledge Economy’ hosted by IE(I)

Engineering, Hosur on 23rd and 24th March 2018, in

I request my team members to focus on approaching

World Water Day22.03.2018

The Tamilnadu State Centre of the Institution of Engineers

(India) observed the World Water Day on the theme

“Nature for Water” on Thursday the 22nd March 2018

at the IE(I)-TNSC Auditorium in association with

IE(I) Kanchepuram Local Centre. At the outset,

Centre welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief

guest Er G S Saxena, Vice President-Engineering (India

Gunaraja, Council Member, IE(I) TNSC briefed about

the theme of the World Water Day.

At the outset Er G S Saxena expressed his gratitude for

having given a chance to deliver a lecture on the

IE(I) Students Chapters were inaugurated in Annamalai

University, Chidambaram, Tamilnadu on 26.03.2018 &

Chapters were inaugurated with a total membership of 1129

students under 7 branches of Engineering.

Prof Dr. S. Manian, Vice Chancellor, Annamalai

University, inaugurated the chapters and gave the inaugural

Address. Er. P. Selvakumar, Director/Planning & Projects

NLC India Ltd and Chairman of IE(I) Neyveli Local Centre,

gave the Keynote address. Prof. Dr. K. Arumugam

Registrar, Annamalai University addressed the gathering.

Prof. Dr. C. Antony Jeyasehar, Dean, Faculty of

Engineering and Technology (FEAT) presided over the

function.

Various technologies like Membrane technology, advanced

technologies for removal of pollutants and micro

pollutants, sewage sludge treatment through anaerobic

digestion and production of biogas, etc., were discussed.

Case studies of Sewage Treatment and Power Generation

from biogas produced from the plant was discussed. It was

also demonstrated that plant is able to produce almost 70-

80% of electrical power requirement, thereby reducing

substantial cost of plant operation. Advanced sludge

treatment and disposal system was also discussed. The

case study of Windhoek project in Africa was discussed,

wherein sewage water is recycled through stringent

treatment and used for domestic purpose. The industrial

water recycling facility of the petrochemical plant was

discussed, where treated water is produced through high

level of membrane filtration and, thereby creating new

water sustaining the industrial operation. As Water

Managers, it is our responsibility to provide safe and

drinking water at an affordable price”.

the memento to the Chief Guest Er G S Saxena. The day

was concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Er R

Ramdoss, Honorary Secretary. About 100 members took

part in this event.

Inauguration of Students Chapter at Annamalai University

Er. B.Selvan, Hon. Secretary, IE(I), Neyveli Local Centre,

briefed about the functioning of the student chapters and

the activities to be carried out by the chapters. Dr. S.

Ganapathy, Professor, Annamalai University and

coordinator of the Students Chapters welcomed the

gathering and Dr. A. Deiveegan, Asst Professor/Civil &

Executive Committee Member of IE(I) Neyveli Local

Centre proposed vote of thanks.

Executive committee members of IE(I) Neyveli Local

Centre, Faculty of various departments of Annamalai

university and about 1500 students including the student

chapter members attended the meeting.

The 4 th IEI Tamilnadu State Centre’s Students’ & Technicians’ Chapter

Convention and National Seminar on ‘Innovation, Technology And Knowledge

Economy’ was organized on 23rd-24th March, 2018 at Aero Wing Seminar Hall,

Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur. The grand event was hosted by

Hosur Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India).

Dr. J. Arivdainambi, Chairman, IE(I) Hosur Local Centre and Chairman,

Students’ Chapter Committee, IE(I) Tamilnadu State Centre welcomed the

dignitaries on the dais and the gathering. He thanked the Tamilnadu State

Centre’s Chairman Dr. G. Ranganath for giving the opportunity to Hosur Local

Centre of IE(I) to host the event. He

welcomed Dr. P. Rajamani, Vice

President, IE(I) for having consented

to be the Chief Guest of the function

and deliver the inaugural address.

significance of the National Seminar

theme ‘Innovation, Technology and

Knowledge Economy’.

Tamilnadu State Centre in his special

address informed that the budding

Engineers are going to be the future

sculptors of the modern society. If they

aspired to become professional engineers

in future, the Institution is always there

to guide them to the right path. IEI has

opened the threshold of professionalism

in engineering by establishing Student

Chapters at Engineering Colleges and

Polytechnic Colleges.

Further he informed that students should

be attentive to the speeches delivered by

the experts. When they attend a Seminar

or workshop they should keep their

mouth closed and open their eyes and

ears for updating their knowledge. They

should develop their habit of learning

and excel in their field of interest.

Having only the bookish knowledge

would not serve the purpose, instead

they should have the thirst for learning

extra-ordinary talents in their field.

Kolkata in his inaugural address thanked

the organizers for inviting him to be the

Chief Guest of the function. He

enthused the students of IEI Students'

Chapter to be vigil in the studies and

studious as spelt in the theme

‘Innovation, Technology and Knowledge

Economy’. The theme itself conveyed

that students should have the Innovative

knowledge on the technological

development that taking place to the

improvement of country's economy.

Prizes, Awards and shields were

distributed to Best Student Award of Engineering College; IEI Students Best

Project Award; IEI Best Division Award and IEI Chapter Best Faculty Advisor

Award by the Chief Guest Dr. P. Rajamani and Dr. G. Ranganath.

Earlier Dr. J. Arivudainambi adorned Dr. P. Rajamani with the sandal garland,

Shawl and presented a memento. Dr. J. Arivudainambi honoured

Dr. G. Ranganath and Er. R. Ramdoss by adorning him with a shawl and sandal

garland.

The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Er. R. Ramdoss,

Hon. Secretary, IE(I), Tamilnadu State Centre.
