So, as some of you know, Mom, Becky and I went toKentucky earlier in May to attend the Kentucky Derby. Letme tell ya, it was awesome! Here are some of the highlights!

So on the day of, wewere getting ready in thehotel, we had to bringthree extra suitcases, bigones too, just to bringalong our hats! Becky’shat was rather fabulousif I do say so myself. Wewere watching a livenews report fromChurchill Downs, andthey were talking aboutsome pretty cool stuff. For example, theydiscussed a racehorse’sshoes. The shoes aremade of aluminum, sothat they don’t weigh the

horse down as they run, as every pound counts.

They also talked about the Bugler’s role in the race, and the practice required to attain the position. Hepractices for ten minutes before the races, in order towarm up. As a former musician myself, I can definitelyconfirm that a vocal warm-ups are necessary.

So, what was the actual race like? Excellent question,my friend. When wegot there, it sprinkleda bit out front, but wedidn’t get too wet.Everybody was dress-ed fabulously, withamazing hats andoutfits. There were asurprising amount ofpeople who weremucker boots, withtheir outfits.

Once we got intothe infield, it was very, very crowded. The atmosphere was pretty pumped, everybody was really excited. A lot of people weredrinking mint julips, and bourbon. I, however, did notget to try any of these, considering that I am decidedlynot drinking age. Seriously, there was a bar and a DJ.

Once I managed to find a good spot for us, not in thegrass, but right in front of a gigantic screen, we spent alot of time watching the races before the Derby. TheDerby was actually the twelfth race of the day, mind you.

At about the ninth race, it started to rain, but not alight drizzle. Once Mom got back from buying us Derbymemorabilia, she gave me my poncho, and I was able toenjoy the races relatively dry and warm.

If any of you plan on going to the Kentucky Derby, hereare some tips. Bring an extra pair of shoes. Are you wearingyour nice heels? Great. But bring an extra pair of morecomfortable shoes, or more functional shoes, like muckers.

Bring a jacket. I know, it’s Kentucky, and it’s humid, butif it looks like it’s going to rain, bring a jacket. You will

thank me when it gets cold, andrains. If you plan on going to theinfield, bring ponchos, not um-brellas. Umbrellas aren’t allowed.

Bring a small chair. In theinfield, there isn’t any providedseating, so bring a chair you cancarry easily, preferably with a strap.

Bring your phone, there is a rather lengthy wait in between races, the Derby especially. And use the bathroom before going to ChurchillDowns. Trust me, you do not want to use the Porta-potties there.

We all got a little bit wet and muddy, but it was really amazingbeing there watching the race on the big screen. So, after the Derby,we checked out Pollo Bandido, an amazing restaurant in Frankfort.Seriously, it has amazing food, and incredibly fast service. Plus, theyhave an awesome flavor of ice cream, a bourbon and maple syrupflavor. From personal experience, it is heavenly. The owner isincredibly nice, interacts with all of his customers.

Thank you guys, I hope everybody enjoyed, have a greatday, and keep being awesome! See you next month!
