Visit to Maskell’s Car Museum and Boiler Works - 4 July 2010
Michael and Carol Maskell very kindly invited the section to visit their Workshopand Boiler Works situated in the village of Wilstead near Bedford to view theircollection of cars, lorries, tractors and steam engines in a newly built museumsoon to open to the public. Very generously, they also provided barbecuedfood with light refreshments and drinks.
Fourteen cars turned up at theMuseum where members weretreated to the sight of many model TFords in near perfect condition, antique tractors and wonderfulsteam and traction vehicles. Manyof us took the opportunity to bedriven round the site by a miniatureFoden steam tractor pulling a trailer, getting covered in soot from thechimney stack in the process!
The Maskell’s asked that a donationis made to the Primrose Cancer Unitat Bedford Hospital NHS Trust and Iwas very pleased to send them acheque for £155.
We all had a great day and thanksto Michael and Carol for inviting us.
Failing to proceed or running away?Either way help was at hand

Peter Eatenton in Chelsea. He offered a reasonable sumfor the Brooklands andaccepted a (returnable)deposit.
Realising that driving into thecentre of London could besomewhat hazardous, I askedSteven Murray whether hemight drive us there.
He immediately offered to do so, and we soon arrived unscathed. After a (highlyrecommended) cup of tea, a suave general factotum took us for a test drive, handingover to me when traffic thinned, as Steven and Wendy luxuriated in the back.
A deal was struck, and after prising Steven off a nice blue Bentley in the showroomwhich he was considering adding to his collection, he drove us home in theBrooklands, the sybaritic palliative arriving the next day.
Two occasions have arisen to use the picnic tables (the first one on the drive),and I haven’t backed in to a wall. What more could anyone wish for?

A Midlife CrisisRecently I spotted a Chelsea Workshop advert in the RREC Advertiser for an ArnageGreen Label, which looked rather splendid. The internet showed pictures of thesumptuous interior with the so-useful picnic tables, and even more importantly tothe middle-aged, details of rear parking sensors (for the car). My excited yelpsdrew Wendy in to the computer room, where she was instantly enamoured. Shepointed at the parking sensors and squeaked ‘Go fer it’. Knowing Wendy’sweaknesses, I had already lifted the phone and begun speaking to the equable

A Message from The Editor
Welcome to the new look Flyer, I can’t believe it is three months since PaulerspuryPeople was published and we are just around the corner from Christmas. Ordinarily the flyer will be sponsored by an advertiser on the outside back cover but on this occasion the space has been donated to the RREC Chairman's Draw.
Thank you all for your contributions to Paulerspury People, without your submissions we would have no content. Do keep them coming in preferably by email but I am happy to accept copy in any form to ensure it is included, so don’t worry if you don’t like computers, just pop it in the post. My address is in the list of contacts opposite.
As well as reporting on events, don’t forget to tell us about anything else you think may be of interest, whether it is about your car or just a story you think others might like to read. I have learned that this section is very keen on humour, so if you know something that might tickle us, send it in.

Extracted from a Rolls-Royce advertisement in The Autocar, 20th April 1907, a private owner writes:
“ I may say my car is a perfect dream. It is so reliable that I have done away with my carriages and horses.”
