Report On Overburden Drill Program

Vimy Ridge Project -Bowman and Hislop Townships

Summary

A reconnaissance program of reverse circulation overburden drilling was completed during June and July, 1981 on the Asarco claim blocks within the Vimy Ridge Project area. The overburden holes were designed to test for gold and/or base metal mineralization within basal tills and within the upper few feet of bedrock. Nineteen holes were drilled for a total of 1,699 feet.

Location and Access

The claims are situated along an east-west trend, extending from Lot 8, Concession III, Hislop Township on the east to Lot 6, Concession III, Bowman Township on the west. The claims are accessible from Highway 11 and Highway 101 by means of a network of gravelled concession roads and unimproved bush trails. The locations of the overburden holes are plotted on location maps which accompany this report.

Property

The property consists of twenty-seven (27) claims numbered as follows:

Hislop Township;

Previous Work

Much of the area has been staked and prospected by various individuals and mining companies at one time or another since the 1920's. Gold occurrences are reported to have been discovered in Lots l and 2, Concession III, Bowman Township.

Overburden Drill Program

The overburden drill provided by Bradley Brothers Limited consists of a Longyear 1-38 drill modified for dual-tube reverse circulation drilling. The drill is mounted on an eighteen ton diesel FN160 Flextrack Nodwell, and has a hydraulic derrick capable of handling twenty feet of rods.

In each hole, continuous sample return was logged and monitored through the complete Pleistocene section, and bedrock chips were collected for several feet into bedrock. Whenever till was identified or suspected, samples of the minus 10 mesh material were collected. These samples would average about fifteen pounds each. A large amount of the plus 10 mesh pebbles and boulder chips was included with each sample to assist in studies of till composition.

Drill holes were located at an approximate,V mile spacing along an east-west profile line in order to prospect for any gold and/or base metal anomaly trains that might occur in the glacial till, fanning out in the down-ice direction from their bedrock source. Ice movement in the Vimy Ridge area is assumed to have been along a trend ranging from 150 to 180 .

Pleistocene Geology

Poorly defined tills were noted near the base of the Pleistocene * sequence in a few of the drill holes. The tills range in thick ness from O to 19 feet. The tills interfinger with and are over lain by stratified sands and gravels which range in thickness from O to 175 feet. The sands and gravels are glaciofluvial sediments which have been deposited within a number of prominent channels that cut the underlying Precambrian bedrock surface. In a few places the sand and gravel material is also found to occur in irregular hills or mounds which probably represent poorly defined clusters of coalescing kames.

The coarser, often poorly sorted sand and gravel is generally overlain by O to 20 feet of outwash material consisting of stratified silt and fine sand.

The basal part of the Pleistocene section is overlain by a sequence of varved clays which were deposited from glacial lake Barlow- Ojibway. The lake sediments range in thickness from O to 37 feet. There appears to have been non-deposition of the lake clays locally, due to high topographic relief on the bedrock surface and/or high topographic relief on the surface of the kame structures.

A boulder ridge, representing a former shoreline position of lake Barlow-0jibway occurs in Lot 4, Concession III of Bowman Township. It trends roughly N20O W and extends through our drilled cross- section approximately midway between drill hole BW-16 and drill hole BW-17.

Anomalous gold values were obtained from heavy mineral concentrates in a few of the holes. It may be very difficult to trace the anomalies to their source due to the fact that the anomalous samples were collected from glaciofluvial material rather than glacial till.

Conclusions

Good basal tills are practically non-existant in the Vimy Ridge area. Anomalous gold values were recorded for heavy mineral concentrates from overburden samples collected in some of the holes but these samples represented glaciofluvial material. It may be very difficult to trace the anomalies to their source.

Respectfully Submitted,

J. J. Sample

Bowman - Hislop TownshipsOverburden DrillingLarder Lake Mining Division

Dear Sir,

Please find enclosed duplicate copies of a report on overburden drilling during June and July 1981 in Bowman and Hislop Townships.

This report includes a descriptive text and logs covering eleven overburden holes in Bowman Township and eight overburden holes in Hislop Township that together constitute the Vimy Ridge Project. We are reporting the entire nineteen holes with total expenditures to be distributed for assessment credit over various claim groups in Bowman and Hislop Townships. A complete breakdown of costs with supporting evidence of expenses incurred throughout the program is included in the report. The distribution of costs/assessment credits has been calculated for each specific area drilled. Also accompany ing this report are drill logs and several drill hole location maps covering the project area.

The Mining Act Report of Work has been previously submitted to the Mining Recorder, Larder Lake Mining Division, Ontario.

We trust that all the necessary data to record this assessment credit is in order. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any queries concerning our submission.
