REPORT OF WORK

PALIN GRANITE CANADA INC.

Introduction

In late August 1991 Palin granite initiated a work program consisting of stripping, bulk sampling, and market testing of a megacrystic green granite in the Forgotten Lake area, Kenora Mining Division.

The property consists of 47 contiguous mining claims between Direct and Botanist Lakes.

Purpose

The program was carried out to:a) Test the extent of surface weathering as indicated by yellow

staining.b) Test the physical features of the formation such as persistence

of horizontal and vertical jointing and ease of breaking in the horizontal and vertical planes.

c) Determine the probability of obtaining large blocks.d) Estimate the amount of waste to product likely to be encountered

in production.e) Test the aesthetic qualities of the stone by manufacturing one

block into tiles having polished or thermal finished surfaces.f) Test market possibilities by shipping blocks or tile samples to

a number of potential customers.

Test Quarrying

Test quarrying showed that staining from surface weathering varies in depth from 30 cm. to l m. Staining is also found in horizontal joints below this when they occure in the first 3 meters from surface. Staining is limited to 5-10 centimeters above and below horizontal cracks in this level.

Splitting of blocks in both horizontal and vertical directions indicate that the stone at this location splits easier in the vertical direction than horizontally. This is completely opposite the case to granites quarried in Finland. This phenomenon is reflected in the persistence of vertical and horizontal joints. Vertical joints seem to be more persistant (continuous to greater depth) than horizontal joints which appear to be discontinuous.

There is excellent potential for quarrying large blocks especially below the first 5 meter level because there is no staining and horizontal joints appear to be farther apart with depth.

Waste in the first 5 meter level will be substantial probably 80% or more. The second level should be much better but amount is difficult to determine at this time.

Market Testing

Polished tiles produced by Grani-Decor Tiles show that the green granite polishes well and is an attractive light green colour. Sample blocks and polished tiles were sent to various potential

customers around the world. Indications from them are that there is a potentially very large market for this stone.

The thermal finished tiles are a silvery grey colour which is also attractive and compliments the green polished tiles when they are used together.

Invoices and Proof of Payment

A summary of invoices is attached. This work was done under a Norfund program. Copies of all invoices and proof of payment have been filed with MNDM. at the Kenora office and copies can be obtained from them.

It Is a syntec tonic to late tectonic pluton composed predominately of massive porphyritic granodiorite and porphyritic quartz monzonite (Breaks e t aL 1 978).
