Dye sublimation is a printing process that is done with a computer printer that is used to print different types of dyes on fabric. This printing process uses heat to transfer the dyes onto the fabric.

Dye sublimation has been around since the year 1957. A man named Noel De Plasse first called it “Transfer printing”. He worked for a small printing company in the north of France. There he discovered that dyes could pass directly from a solid form to a gaseous state when brought to a temperature above 370 degrees.

THE SUBLIMATION PROCESS CAN NOT BE DONE ON DARK MATERIALS, IT CAN ONLY BE DONE ON WHITE FABRICS. THE DYE SUBLIMATION CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE GARMENT. UNLIKE SCREEN PRINTING THE DYES DO NOT PEEL OFF, CRACK, OR FADE.

THE INK USED FOR SUBLIMATION DYE IS VERY UNIQUE BECAUSE IT CAN CHANGE FROM A SOLID TO A GAS WITHOUT BECOMING A LIQUID. IT IS INITIATED WITH HEAT AND CONTROLLED WITH TIME AND PRESSURE.

WITH ALL THE MATERIALS NEEDED CREATING A DYE SUBLIMATION CAN BE VERY SIMPLE AND EASY. This takes some time to do but is worth it because it is permanent and doesn’t get messed up like screen printing.
