SPACE TO SUCCEED SIXTH FORM

description

The Sixth Form at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School opened in September 2010. Since then it has grown in size and in popularity with increasing numbers of applications from current Year 11 pupils and external applicants. The Sixth Form has lessons on Saturday mornings, even if they are not boarders - and the majority of the Sixth Form is boarding. The reason the Sixth Form works is down to the emphasis placed not only on academic excellence, but on enrichment and community activities. We know each student personally and focus on developing the ‘whole’ individual. Students entering our Sixth Form will be given the opportunity to thrive and excel in preparation for university, employment and life in general.

THIS IS YOUR TIMEThis is your moment. This is where all your work over the last five

years comes together. This is your chance to take everything you

have learned, every sport, every subject, every experience, and bring

them together to create your own unique combination of strengths.

Your Sixth Form has been designed to provide the space you need

to extend your learning, refine your skills and develop an unshakeable

confidence in your abilities.

This is your time to show the world what you can do.

“The Sixth Form is good, with

outstanding elements. Growing

rapidly, it offers a broad choice of

courses, encourages aspiration

and fosters independent learning

and personal responsibility.”

SPACE TO LIVE...Boarding is a simply great experience. You will develop the

confidence and independence you will need when you go to

university, get a job or take a gap year.

Living in our ‘stately home’ Gatton Hall, or purpose built Sixth Form

annexes, you will be in the ideal place to prepare yourself for the

future, surrounded by your peers.

Whether a boarder, or non boarder, you can experience the incredible

opportunities provided by a school with 260 acres of parkland,

gardens and sports facilities.

This really is the place where you have the space to grow.

“Everyone is so comfortable with

each other it feels like a family”

SPACE TO EXCELYou will discover that we have built an outstanding environment for

independent learning. Teachers have great depth of knowledge and

enthusiasm for their subject and go out of their way to give help and

support whenever it’s needed.

The Bernard Sunley Sixth Form Centre offers three IT suites for you

to use during study periods between timetabled lessons. The ‘break

out’ room is the perfect place for working in small groups or, if you

need to concentrate there are supervised ‘quiet zones’ for more

focused study.

Your workload will be demanding, but achievable, and these facilities

are there to help you make the most of your time academically - but

it’s not ‘all work and no play’. The ‘internet café’ style common room

is the perfect place to chill out with friends and take your mind off

study.

“I think she is lucky to have

teachers who are passionate

about their subject and I know

they are conveying their passion

to my daughter in their teaching.”

TIME TO SHARE...You will make a contribution. As a Sixth Form student you will get

the chance to take on additional responsibilities in the School and in

our boarding community, such as mentoring younger pupils, helping

to run activities and clubs, and lead other school projects such as

fundraising.

You will also get involved in the community action programme and

support real projects in the local community.

These activities are not only fun and rewarding but look great on

your university application!

“I can’t believe how much my

daughter has achieved in a few

short months. Thank you for all

the opportunities being put her

way, she is certainly making the

most of them.”

MOVING ON...When you start planning for your future in the workplace, at

university or even a gap year, then the ‘destinations’ room has all the

information you need to help you make the best choices.

Inspirational tutors and fantastic facilities are only part of the reason

to come here. The Sixth Form at the Royal Alexandra and Albert

School is your best chance to prove what you can do academically,

physically and socially and offers you the best possible springboard

into adult life.

“Gatton is the place that made

me what I am.”
