ABOUT LAST NIGHT... The Round Rock Express suffered a tough 11-6 loss to the San Antonio Missions in game three of their current four-game series on Thursday night. The Missions poured it on from the start as RF Tyrone Taylor sent a two-run homer over the Dell Diamond fences in the top of the first inning. In the next frame, San Antonio extended their lead to 5-0 by roughing up Express starter RHP Forrest Whitley for three runs on two singles, a double and a walk. Missions CF Corey Spangenberg then launched a leadoff homer in the fifth inning, followed by a Troy Stokes, Jr. walk and Nate Orf double, eventually adding another run via a Jake Hager fielder's choice. The E-Train pushed the pace in the fifth as 2B Jack Mayfield singled before scoring on a home run by LF Kyle Tucker for his 13th longball of the 2019 campaign. RF Drew Ferguson then tallied a single and was doubled home by C Jamie Ritchie, who brought Round Rock within 7-4 after racing home on a wild pitch. The three-run deficit was short-lived as Spangenberg spoiled the fun in the sixth with a three-run blast. Mayfield attempted to spark a comeback in the eighth with a no-doubter home run, then Tucker tacked on another run thanks to a Ferguson ground out. However, San Antonio shut down the Round Rock offense to finalize the score at 11-6. RED-HOT HARTMAN Chupacabras LHP Ryan Hartman gets the nod in Friday night's series finale against the Flying Chanclas. The lefty has been solid for Round Rock in his first eight outings, including six starts, pitching to a 5-1 record and a 4.50 ERA while striking out 31. In his last start against San Antonio, Hartman earned the win after holding the foes to only two runs on five hits in 6.0 innings. FEAR THE FLY BALL Round Rock LHP Ryan Hartman has been victimized by the home run ball as of late. Despite his hot start to the season, eight of the last nine runs allowed by Hartman have been home runs. The lefty owns the highest groundout-to-flyout ratio on the team at 2.17. MAN ON A MISSION Chupacabras LF Kyle Tucker has sparked greatness in May, smoking eight home runs this month, upping his batting average from .173 in April to .261 entering tonight's game. The outfielder posted another dazzling performance on Thursday, going 3-3 and notching his 13th home run of the year. Tucker is batting .394 (13-33) with three homers and eight RBI in his last 10 games and a blistering .474 (9-19) in his last five. A RARE NIGHT FOR ROUND ROCK For just the third time this season, the Chupacabras allowed 15 hits to their opponent last night. Oddly enough, the other two 15-hit games came earlier this homestand as Oklahoma City accomplished the feat on May 14 before the Nashville Sounds did so on May 20. Round Rock is 4-16 when being out-hit, while they hold a 23-2 record when out-hitting their opponent. REED HEATING UP After a slow start to the season and a brief period of time on the injured list, Chupacabras 1B AJ Reed has started to heat up. The infielder has hit 4-16 (.250) in his last five games, notching a double, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in that span. Last night, Reed shot a blast into CF inches away from the right-center field berm before being robbed by San Antonio CF Corey Spangenberg.
