Applicant Eligibility: Key Criteria

The ideal candidate

• Strong commitment to global understanding & peace• Strong leadership skills• Strong personal statement• Meets all application requirements:

Proficiency in English; proficiency in a second language is strongly recommended Strong commitment to international understanding and peace as demonstrated

through professional and academic achievements and personal or community service

Excellent leadership skills Master's degree applicants: minimum three years of relevant full-time work or

volunteer experience, bachelor's degree Certificate applicants: minimum five years of relevant full-time work or volunteer

experience, strong academic background

Applicant Eligibility: Key Criteria Continued…Eligibility Restrictions

Rotary Peace Fellowships may not be used for doctoral study. And the following people are not eligible for the master’s degree program:

• Active Rotary members• Employees of a Rotary club or district, Rotary International, or other Rotary entity• Spouses, lineal descendants (children or grandchildren by blood or legal adoption), spouses of lineal

descendants, or ancestors (parents or grandparents by blood) of any living person in these categories.

• Former Rotary members and their relatives as described above (within 36 months of their resignation)

Recipients of Global Grant Scholarships or professional development certificate fellowships must wait three years after completion of the scholarship or fellowship to apply for the master's degree program.

Rotary Peace Fellows who have completed the master's degree program must wait five years to apply for the certificate program.

District Selection Process continued…

• All applicants must be endorsed by a Rotary District in order to submit their application. This requires an interview from the district and two signatures. One

signature from the District Governor and the second from either one of the following:• Rotary Peace Fellowship Subcommittee Chair• District Rotary Foundation Chair• Grants Subcommittee Chair• Scholarships Subcommittee Chair District must agree that they want to

sponsor the applicant

Interviewing CandidatesEvery Rotary Peace Fellowship applicant must be interviewed by the district selection committee. This committee should include:

Current district Rotary Peace Fellowships subcommittee chair, district governor, immediate past governor, governor-elect, or Rotary Foundation committee chair

Three Rotarians or non-Rotarians with expertise in the field of peace or a related field.

Submitting the District Endorsement to The Rotary FoundationFINAL STEP

Submit the district endorsement through the application platform to The Rotary Peace Centers before 1 July. We suggest to fill out your district endorsement if you choose to endorse or deny the candidate.

You must register to the application platform with a new user name and password. This is not a single sign- in platform. Technical support will be provided by Embark at +1-646-368-8394 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Training will be provided on how to endorse your candidate’s application on the application platform through Embark in March 2017, please keep a look out in your e-mail inbox for a message from Rotary Peace Centers.

Hold an Informational Session

• Hold a club meeting to educate Rotarians in your club about the Rotary Peace Fellowship.

• Hold a lecture or discussion about peace and other international events at various locations in your community, such as universities, community centers, and non-profit organizations.

• Consider inviting a current or former Rotary Peace Fellow to speak at your Rotary event.

Short Promotional Pitch

What’s your 30 second promotional pitch?

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is a great opportunity for people with a passion for peace to take their education to the next level. Fellows study at one of six Rotary Peace Centers around the world and can either earn a professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution or a master’s degree in international relations, public administration, sustainable development, peace studies, or a related field. The fellowship covers tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and internship or field study expenses. Do you know anyone who might be a good candidate?
