Centennial Project
Part of a world wide movement to promote literacy and build community
It began in Hudson, Wisconsin, when one man build a tiny, one-room school house to honor his mother and her love of reading.
The idea caught on… Lots of people began to build their own Little Free Libraries
The Rotary Club of Fort Wayne decided to join the movement
• To promote literacy
• To build community
• To celebrate 100 years of “Service Above Self” by sponsoring 100 Little Free Libraries
On July 16, 2013, we installed our first Little Free Library at Washington Elementary School
It generated lots of interest!
It received media attention!
It was an immediate hit with our target audience!
We invited the community to join us in celebrating
100 years of “Service Above Self”
• Schools
• Churches
• Civic Organizations
• Nonprofits
• Businesses
GOAL: 100 Little Free Libraries installed by June 2015
• Clubs
• Neighborhoods
• Families
• Individuals
We already have our first partners
• University of St. Francis “Educators in Action”
• Fort Wayne Fire Department
• NAACP Fort Wayne/Allen County Branch 3049
The Brincefield Family has already installed their Little Free Library.
Interested in joining the movement? Become a Rotary Little Free Library partner
Partners receive:
• Paid $35 Little Free Library registration fee and charter sign
• Set of 10 “starter” books for your library
• Listing on LFL Locator Map
• Photo on Rotary LFL Facebook page
• Help with publicity
• Help with acquiring building plans and materials
Each partner agrees to:
• Be a good Little Free Library steward
– Maintain their Little Free Library in good order
– Keep their Little Free Library stocked with books
• Affix the Rotary logo to their Little Free Library or mounting post
Your Little Free Library can be anything you want it to be
From Basic to Fancy
Or anything in between
Creativity is most definitely encouraged!
