In Cultural History class, seventh graders learn about the glyph-based writing system employedby the ancient Maya. In their Visual Arts class, they create their own glyphs, imitating the Mayastyle by incorporating animals and symbols that are important to them, as the Maya did.

The First Annual Ross Parent/Child Tennis Tournamentbrought together 16 teams from the community in threeage brackets for an afternoon of friendly competitionthat benefited the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund.

Hugs, smiles, and laughter filled the Lower School FieldHouse at the annual Grandparents and Special FriendsDay. Guests, some from as far away as the Philippinesand Germany, gathered for a Book Fair and a beautifulconcert featuring songs and performances by studentsin grades pre-nursery through 6.

Afterward, grandparents and special friends accompaniedthe students back to their classrooms, with many stoppingto see the new baby goats and other woolly and featheredresidents of the Lower School farm on the way. It was adelightful day shared with families and loved ones.

Honorees Russell Simmons and Ross School facultyjoined more than 350 guests to celebrate at the EleventhAnnual Live @Club Starlight gala. The benefit, which included live and silent auctions as well as exquisite offerings from the Ross Café, raised more than half amillion dollars for Ross School programs and scholar-ships, including the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund.

Cocktail hour entertainment featured alumni Lilly-AnneMerat ’07 and Forrest Gray ’10. Alexandra Fairweather ’08and Maximilian Eicke ’07 served as emcees, welcomingguests and student speakers Selena Garcia-Torres ’14 andAutumn Coard ’22 and sharing their appreciation of theirRoss education.

Founder Courtney Sale Ross acknowledged contributionsby faculty honorees and shared the history and legacy ofRoss School. Dean of Visual Arts Jennifer Cross spoke onbehalf of the faculty, and special guest Russell Simmonsaddressed the impact of an education in the arts on children.

KC and the Sunshine Band continued the party into thenight with a dazzling performance featuring classic hitsincluding “Get Down Tonight” and “Boogie Shoes.”

This past year, Ross School provided financial aid to morethan 35% of the student body. Funds raised through ClubStarlight continue this support into the 2014–2015 schoolyear. Thank you to our generous donors for helping Rossgive students a life-changing education!

The Sixth Annual Ross School Golf with the Knicks atThe Bridge raised over $45,000 for programs and theSteven J. Ross Scholarship Fund. More than 50 players,including Knicks legends Larry Johnson, John Starks,Herb Williams, Anthony Bonner, Mel Davis, and JohnWallace, turned out on a perfect, sunny day for some funon the links.

Ross School parents Debra Fields Feldstein, HarryHackett III, and Toni Sacconaghi chaired the outing,which included breakfast and lunch in the clubhouse, as well as a cocktail reception and awards ceremony.Trophies were distributed to top players, includingValinda Valcich for the longest drive and Debra FieldsFeldstein for the shot closest to the pin on the fifth hole.

More than 180 people participated in the Second AnnualRun for Ross 5K. The event brought together runnersfrom all over Long Island, with Ross parents, faculty,staff, and alumni making a strong showing.

Participants started the day with stretching exercises andtai chi on the beach. They then ran, walked, and rode bikespast some of the most beautiful property in East Hampton.

Afterward, participants gathered for post-race festivitiesand medals in nine age categories.
