    CAP EXCELLENCE

Vince Lombardi, legendary head coach of the NFLGreen Bay Packers, once said, Perfection is notattainable, but if we chase perfection we can catchexcellence.

What is excellence? Excellence can be defined as astate of possessing good qualities in an eminent degree;exalted merit; superiority in value. (Webster)

One of the four CAP Core Values is Excellence. This isbased on one of the United States Air Force CoreValues, Excellence in all that we do. That USAFchallenge is to develop a sustained passion for thecontinuous improvement and innovation that will propelthe Air Force into a long-term, upward spiral ofaccomplishment and performance. (The Little Blue Book)

Steve Jobs, icon of technology accomplishment andbusiness entrepreneurship, and co-founder of AppleComputer, encouraged, Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment whereexcellence is expected.

Some might question, Why is pursuit of excellenceimportant? Why isnt OK good enough? The answerlies in what you think of yourself, how much you respectand value yourself, how you view the enormous potentialyou hold in your life, and how much you demand ofyourself. Youre in charge of you! Do you expectyourself to be your very best, in everything you do?

Its certainly not easy to strive to be excellent. It requiresconstant self-awareness, determination, and discipline. But ask yourself, what do you do that doesnt deserve (continued on page 4)

    COMMANDERS CORNER

Welcome to the secondquarterly edition of the CAPCadet Squadron 702Newsletter. During the past three months our Squadron

has expanded its program and volunteer activities, focusing on our mission to serve, and to develop ouryouth the aerospace leaders of the future. We haveexperienced a surge of requests for local communityinvolvement and our Cadets have marched in holidayparades and provided Color Guard, earning kudos fortheir performance. At the September Cedarfest westaffed a CAP Recruitment Booth, providing increasedpublic awareness of the CAP Cadet Program, and theCedarville citizenry displayed much interest and a warmwelcome. Our membership is on the rise, in both Cadetsand Senior Members, and we anticipate that trend willcontinue.

Our Squadron members have been very involved, participating in state-wide joint squadron activities, broadening general knowledge of military history throughhands-on experiences, and strengthening the campingand service opportunities. We have pursued aggressivejoint squadron training in Emergency Services, upgradingour ability to be a more effective unit in responding torequests for support. In addition, several of our Cadetshave successfully completed phases of individualtraining, and have achieved promotions.

Consistently, we have received positive feedback andexpressions of appreciation from the public. As 2012approaches, we will continue to strive to improve ourrecruitment and our CAP Program activities, focusing on

developing practical skills, leadership and self-esteem.Our program will explore new areas and challenges, withan eye towards sustained excellence and achievement inour youth.

I am very pleased with the progress of our Squadron, aswe pursue our mission of service. I take pride in thepositive attitude, the can do spirit, and the impressiveaccomplishments of all our Cadets.
