NEWS FROM THE APO Welcome back to Semester 2! Office Moves: The Admin staff within the School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences have moved around during the mid-year break. The Head of School, his Personal Assistant, the School Manager and the Finance team have moved to the Main Building (where Property Services and Sally used to be). Within the admin area of the Williams Building, you will now find: Di Barton, APO-G29 (near the front desk area, rather than hiding at the back of the building!) Anne Mowday, Timetable & Enrolment queries – in her usual spot in the front desk area Judy Tucker, AHEMS/EMS – in the front desk area in the Williams Wendy Hamood, AHEMS/EMS – in G25 (Di’s old office) Sally Polkinghorne, Student Counsellor and Disability Advisor – G28 (Gail’s old office) Bridgette Shakleford, Curriculum co-ordinator – G30 Fred Chew, Instructional Designer – G30 Assignment boxes are still located in the Williams Building What happens if you failed a course last semester? If you failed a course last semester, this may have an impact on your progression through your degree. Firstly, it depends if that course was a pre-requisite course for higher level courses (or courses in Sem 2) – if so, you will not be able to enrol into these courses until you have com- pleted the pre-requisite course successfully (if it is only listed as assumed knowledge, you are able to proceed in that course; however, you may still need to repeat the failed course to qualify for your program). Secondly, it also depends if the course was a core course for your program – all core courses must be completed for you to be able to graduate. If you did fail a course (or came close and are worried about passing future courses), please come and see me – we can work out part-time study options (if available to you), study plans to allow for completing re- quired courses in sequence and how long it may eventually take you to complete your program. Semester 2 enrolment While we are on the topic, you should re-check your Semester 2 enrolment. Check that you have completed all the required pre-requisites, are enrolled in the correct version of the course (especially important for those courses with animal science and pre-vet students) and are en- rolled in all the courses you think you should be. The Census date for Sem 2 is 31 August. This semester we will have the Student Calendar working more effectively so that people know what is happening and on what days. If you are planning an event, please have a look at the student calendar to see if it clashes with anything that may have already been organised. If you would like to enter an event on to the calendar, please send me an email with the details (date, time, who is able to come, cost (if applicable), contact name).
