ADULT/TEEN CERAMICS

Raku Firing EventAge(s) 16 +

Interested in learning about American Raku? This evening workshop event will allow you to get a brief overview of the process of firing using this alternative style of decorative ceramics. Participants will choose a bisque form to glaze at the event, and will have the opportunity to learn a little bit about the history and the nature of the process. The glazed forms will be fired in a portable gas kiln and reduced in cans— which is where the distinctly metallic, crackled, and/or black surface of American Raku is developed. Participants will be able to take home their forms at the end of the event.

This type of firing involves removing work from a very hot kiln. We will be firing to about 1800 – 1850 degrees Fahrenheit and working around an open flame.
