CLASS CANCELLATION

ARTIST STUDIOS

Ceramic artist Sarah Hydell’s studio

Open studio sessions allow artists the opportunity to work on their own in an equipped creative environment. The studios are available when classes are not in session. Call (937) 296-0294 to learn available hours and any necessary orientation or prerequisites.

VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 15 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended.

STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card.

OPEN STUDIO FEES: Pottery – Painting – Glass – Dance – Drawing Drop-in fee per visit: $4/resident; $8/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $30/resident; $60/non-resident. Supplies are not included in open studio fees.

POTTERY STUDIO: Clay fee of $19 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded. Attendance at a free pottery studio orientation is required of all first-time participants.

DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment. Darkroom fee per visit: $5/resident; $10/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $35/resident; $70/non-resident.

Reminder: Discount Cards must be processed by the individual holder. Discount Cards are for individual use

only and not to be shared among friends or family.

Rosewood Arts Centre is a unique program and facility dedicated to enriching the quality of life for the residents of Kettering and the greater Dayton area by providing creative experiences through the arts. A division of the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Rosewood presents almost 400 classes annually for youth and adults, as well as gallery exhibitions, theater performances, artist studios and special events.

Sign language interpreters are available for Rosewood classes to our patrons with hearing impairments. Sign Language interpreters may be requested for Rosewood classes. Please allow at least two weeks’ notice and call Rosewood at (937) 296-0294.

Rosewood Arts Centre provides facility rentals for various events, meetings and programs. For more information, please call (937) 296-0294.

Rosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

Artist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre and applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Spaces are available for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Studio spaces are $85/month for Kettering

CitySites is a percent for art program recognizing artistic excellence, accessibility to the arts for all people, and the positive impact creativity has on our community and

quality of life in the City of Kettering. Established in 1999 through the Kettering City Council, CitySites empowers a citizen advisory committee, the Art in Public Places Committee, to develop and oversee public art programming in Kettering.

Recent projects include an aluminum pour as part of the National Bronze Sculpture Symposium and the commissioning of works by local artists Katherine Kadish, Jean Koeller and Hamilton Dixon.

Dance classes are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are safer than socks. Tap shoes or hard-soled shoes are required for tap. Leotards and tights are optional. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily.

Basic Theatre InstructionAge(s) 9 – 14

This class provides instruction in the basic theatre skills of pantomime, movement, voice and diction, improvisation, script work, audition techniques and performing a monologue. This is a prerequisite for the Kettering Children’s Theatre and Advanced Theatre Instruction.

Advanced Theatre InstructionAge(s) 9 – 14

This course builds on the skills gained in Basic Theatre Instruction. We will focus on proper breathing techniques, voice projection, speech and diction exercises, audition techniques (including selection and preparation of individual audition pieces), developing a character, and performing a short play. The final play will be performed before an audience. Enrollment is limited to 12 to allow for the depth of work required. Prerequisite: Basic Theatre Instruction. This is a prerequisite for the Kettering Children’s Theatre.

Kids will discover the science behind photography while exercising their creativity in this STEAM initiative program.

Section A: Students will learn about the chemistry behind layering light sensitive paper to create one of a kind photographic surprising, colorful and delicate images.

Section B: Students will make their own camera obscura which they can place over their head to see first-hand how a basic camera structure works from the inside.

Kettering Children’s TheatreAge(s) 10 – 14

The Kettering Children’s Theatre Production is a youth theatre program for elementary through junior high students. The theatre program produces two plays per year. Prerequisites to this production are the Basic Theatre Instruction and/or Advanced Theatre Instruction classes at Rosewood Arts Centre or by permission of the instructor. If you have previous theatre experience but have not taken either class at Rosewood you may perform a monologue at auditions. The monologue must be memorized. Monologues will be available in the Rosewood Arts Centre front office. All potential participants are encouraged to take at least one acting class or a summer camp.

Students are required to make a commitment to three rehearsal sessions per week. Parent participation is welcomed.

Registration deadline for the fall production is August 22, 2014. Registration forms must be dropped off at Rosewood Arts Centre. Open auditions will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 11 a.m.

Fall production dates are November 7, 8, 9 and 14, 15, 16.

Steven primarily teaches youth clay classes, including the popular Exploring Pottery Skills, but is always willing to pitch in and help with summer camps, too. We’ve seen some pretty impressive pizza stones and chip/dip trays leave the studio with his students!

A graduate of Sinclair Community College, Steven earned a certificate in Photographic Technology. In addition to photography, he creates beautiful, functional ceramic pieces and studied painting, drawing, sculpture and woodworking while at Sinclair. Steve was also a five-time winner of Sinclair’s Olga Botezat award.

DANCE APPARELDance classes, such as Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Modern are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are safer than socks. Tap shoes or hard-soled shoes are required for tap. Leotards and tights are optional. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily. Leather-soled shoes are best for Ballroom Dance classes, held at the Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center.

For over 50 years, the Kettering Civic Band has performed throughout the region and the world. The band rehearses each Monday evening at the Kettering Middle School. The program is for adults and young people who have a minimum amount of high school musical training. The organization is an excellent source for those who wish to gain concert band experience.

FEESFull payment for classes must be made at the time of registration. Resident fees are for those participants who either live or work within the Kettering city limits. Program fees for non-Kettering residents will be an additional 25 percent or $5, whichever is greater (not to exceed $10). Fees will be refunded if a class is full.

PAYMENT METHODSThe City will accept cash, personal checks, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) and money orders for the payment of fees. Please note which of these forms of payment is acceptable for the method of registration you choose. The City cannot accept any debit cards for payment. The City will charge a $25 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to: City of Kettering.

CONFIRMATIONOnce we have processed your registration, we will mail you a confirmation showing which classes you are enrolled. If we were unable to place you in a class, the fee for that class will be placed in your family’s household account as an account credit, and this, too, will be noted on your confirmation. You may:

LATE REGISTRATION Late registrations will be accepted prior to the second class meeting. After the second class meeting, no registrations will be accepted. Individuals registering late will be required to pay the total class fee.

REFUND POLICY — OUR COMMITMENT TO YOUWe strive for positive experiences and excellence in everything we do. All refunds will be made according to the following guidelines.

If you have attended one of our classes or purchased a pass and are dissatisfied, call us. We will offer a prorated refund.

If you were unable to attend a set of classes, we will try to transfer you to another section. Otherwise, we will offer a 50% household credit of the class price.

Special consideration will be given for life altering situations.

All refunds will follow the Finance Department’s bill-paying schedule and be issued by City check. There will be no cash refunds or credit card refunds.

Non-residents may register beginning Monday, May 19, at 8 a.m. The City of Kettering encourages patrons to login to the system (www.ketteringoh.org) prior to Monday, May 12, to verify household information (address, residency status, family members). Your residency classification is based on your status as of your last enrollment or pass registration. To modify your information, please contact the registration staff at the Kettering Recreation Complex (296-2587), Rosewood Arts Centre (296-0294) or Lathrem Senior Center (296-2480). Keep in mind: registrations will not be permitted until the above-stated dates. If you experience trouble using the system, please contact the Kettering Recreation Complex staff at 296-2587.
