14th August 2020 Term 3 Week 4
Dear Parents and Carers ,
Sports Day
Congratulations to our four sports houses- Marnba, Menida, Balli and Wamba who competed in Sport Day this week. All students showcased
our school values and it was a fun day. We all braved the early taste of humidity to enjoy the first large community event of the year. It was
wonderful to see so many families at school, encouraging positive, friendly participation in athletics. I would like to recognise the hard work of
our PE teacher Jarred Rees, all our staff- teachers, support assistants, administration and maintenance - who all contributed significantly to
the day, and our parent volunteers who ran the BBQ and organsied the raffle.
Your opinion matters!
The link to annual NT School Survey has been emailed to all families this week. The School Survey collects the opinions of staff, students and their families about school performance, culture and services. This year the School Survey will be open from Monday 10 August to Fri-day 28 August 2020. Here is the link for the Parent Survey: https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/Zhx3ExPV. It is an easy-to-complete online survey and takes about 10 minutes. The survey results can be used to inform school improvement planning, such as establishing a basis for setting targets, measuring progress, and evaluating school’s improvement efforts.
Stranger Danger
With reports of suspicious vehicles in the Palmerston area I encourage all parents and carers to regularly discuss the three R’s with their
children, especially for independent students who are riding or walking home.

COVID 19 reminders Let’s not get complacent. Please help minimise the risk by following these guidelines: Do not come to school or send your child to school if there is any possibility that you may have had contact with a person who has COVID-19. Do not come to school or send your child to school if either of you are unwell. Drop off your child and leave the school grounds quickly. Go directly to where you need to go. Parents of Transition children and Preschool
children may stay a little while but please observe distancing. Remember to maintain physical distancing whilst on school grounds. Make sure we have your correct contact details.
Tracking our attendance! All Northern Territory government schools are required to maintain accurate attendance records for each student enrolled at the school, every school day. Attendance records, and the collation of data, assist school staff to monitor individual student engagement and the department to plan whole-of-school attendance strategies. Attendance data provides the foundation for resource allocation and is used for reporting purposes. If your child is absent from school due to illness or other family reasons, please contact the school and inform us of the absence. Our Enrollment and Attendance Officer will send out a text reminder asking you to get in touch by phoning the school or the absentee hotline or by email. Please take a minute or so of your time and let us know the reasons for your child’s absence.
“Respectfully and cooperatively striving for excellence with confidence, integrity and resilience.”

Water Bottles—In line with our safe and hygienic
practices we ask that all students bring a water
bottle with their name clearly marked on it to
school. Students are not able to drink from the
water bubblers however can use the bubblers to
fill up their water bottles.
Dates To Remember
As per our school Uniform Policy, Students
must wear the prescribed school hat for
recess and lunch outside play. This is our
schools commitment to be a Sunsmart school
and due to the warm Darwin climate. Please
ensure your child brings a prescribed school
hat labelled with their name each day. Hats
can be purchased through reception.

Yr 1 Nichols/Thomas Year 1 Nichols/Thomas has been looking at the ‘then and now’ through history of Australia. We have been reading and listening to fiction books that give us a better understanding and some new knowledge of the First People and the European settlers. This week we read You and Me Murrawee by Kerri Hashmi. The story is about a young girl from today who is camping by the river. She talks about how Murrawee (an Aboriginal girl from 200 years ago) would have played and explored the same grounds. It is a beautifully observed book that showed our class how we can learn through just simply listening and sharing. To show our understanding of the story and how it relates to us, we collected natural materials from outside that would have been the same as 200 years ago. We created a mural that demonstrates the two eras coming together in one picture.
Mr Sutton, music teacher from NT Music School, led our biggest and youngest ever RPS Band, with 80% being new to the program this year, and the rest are continuers from last year. The very playful item ‘BOP’ featured the trombonists. Each of the sections demonstrated what the instruments sounded like. It is very encouraging to see an increasing growth in interest from our students. Our instrumental program is open to year 4 to 6 students. Enrolment is through the NT Music School. Enrolments for 2021 will open toward mid-Term 4.
