Rosary College and Third Class Science is Fun

This event was organised by teachers in both schools.With the help of parents the children got to investigate five different science experiments in a real science lab.Some students from the secondary school helped out in explaining the experiments to the children.It was great event Science is Fun!!1

At this station we learnt about a Bunsen Burner.We put salt and water in a bowl and heated it until all the water had gone.When it was finished it looked a bit like snow.

At this station we were able to see metal expanding.When metal is heated it gets bigger.The metal ball was put on top of the flame.When metal is cooled it gets Smaller.When metal is put into cold water it gets smaller.

Charlis Dad let us investigate the effects of heat on metal.

At this station we learned about acids and bases.We tested to see which test tubes had acids and which had bases.We could tell by the different colours.We used a colour key to check our results.

This is Adrias mom Orla showing us what to do.We were really glad she could help us.

At this station we investigated food.We tested food to see if it had starch.We put iodine on the different food to see if there was starch.If it turned blue black there was starch in the food.

At this station we learned about oxygen and carbon dioxide.Leahs mom showed us that oxygen takes up space.When you burn a candle is uses up the oxygen.The water in the bowl rises into take its place.The candle is pushed up by the water.Everyone thought this was amazing!

We had a great time.The parents all enjoyed showing off their new skills.The schools really enjoyed working together.Science showed us a new way to look at things in our world.
