Dear Parents/Carers, children, staff and Governors, We had a good turnout (in the rain) for our woodland working party on Saturday – staff and family members, governors, children and parents from our school - we had over 35 people contribute blood, sweat, tears and muscle-ache to clear masses of greenery and we got a great fire going to get rid of the waste. We consumed doughnuts and hot drinks between the cutting, pruning, dragging, wheelbarrowing, sorting, piling and burning. The woodland is now much more accessible to classes of children. Our next step will be to set-up specific zones and areas for ‘forest schools’ including canopies, seating (tyres and logs), bugs/mini-beast hotels, fire pit (gotta love those marshmallows!) and tools zone too. Watch this space for the next opportunity to get involved – many hands make light work, even when the work is quite heavy!
My sincere thanks to all who have given time and/or materials to support the improvements to our
outdoor areas to date. Super thanks must go to Chris Douglas for staying on to finish and dampen the fire and to Ben and Bev Lagden for sourcing and ferrying many tools to and from Dorset Wildlife Trust in Corfe Mullen! Super thanks also to Andrews Plant for the top soil and gravel, and to Benny Crew for tyres and sand. The clay is on it’s way next to line our new pond… then to get those tyres buried in the ground for seating and climbing. Best wishes, Paul Beveridge, Headteacher
A very funny author Joffre White visited us on Wednesday this week. Feedback from children
was that they were really inspired, couldn’t stop writing and enjoyed meeting Joffre. Y4 teachers
thought the session was excellent and really inspiring too. Joffre said it was brilliant to see every
hand go up when he asked “Who likes reading?” during his assembly. Y5 were quick to share
that it was amazing to think they can all be ‘published’ writers, using the internet – who needs a
publishing house these days?!
PTA VALENTINES DISCO THURS 8TH FEB
Please find below information that your child will have brought home in leaflet form
about the Valentines disco, this information has also been emailed out via Wisepay.
Please note all after school clubs will be running as normal if your child attends
streetdance this will be held in the Worship centre or alternatively in a classroom. NB:
In some cases your child will need to make a choice between attending their club or
the disco due to a clash of timings, apologies but unfortunately this year that has been
unavoidable. If your child is in KS2 and has a club that finishes at 4/4:05pm they are
welcome to get changed in school and go to their disco at 4:15pm, please inform us if
this is what they will be doing. If they are not attending the disco your child/children
will need collecting straight from clubs at the normal time.
The disco takes place on Thursday 8th Feb as follows:
KS1: (Saplings - Year 2) straight from school till 4pm - please send your child in with a
change of clothes and £2 in a named envelope to be given to the class teacher at the
start of the school day.
KS2: (Years 3 - 6) 4:15pm - 5:15pm - £2 can be given to the class teacher on the
morning in a named envelope or paid on the door at the 4:15pm drop off.
For the £2 the children will be provided with a drink, packet of sweets and a packet of
crisps. After their disco finishes all children need to be collected from their classrooms.
Thank you to the PTA for again organising this fabulous and fun event for the children.
Running late?? Please can we remind you that if you find yourself running late for collection on a regular basis that you arrange for your child/children to attend the afterschool club. Sandmartins can be contacted on 01929 551212

REMINDER! ILLNESS AND MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS:
Please can we remind you that if your child is absent from school for ANY reason a message should be left on absence line before 9:30am. Our office staff will contact you if we do not hear from you because as a school safeguarding your child/children is our main priority. If we are unable to get hold of you this is recorded as unauthorised.
Healthy snacks at breaktime: Our school policy is clear on acceptable break time snacks – children should only bring actual fruit or veg. This means nothing in packets (except raisins etc) or processed. No fruit winders, cereal bars or biscuit based products please. As we are a nut free school (due to severe allergies) please respect no nuts of any kind. Inappropriate snacks will be returned at the end of the day for consumption at home.

S O A R I N G away….! ART COMPETITION “Roots to grow… wings to soar.”
As you will know by now, we are exploring a new way into our desired learning behaviours and would now like to give
the children an opportunity to design a logo/badge/emblem for the school.
“We would like the children to be involved in exactly how this should look. We are launching an Art competition where
children will be invited to present their ideas for our new ‘SOARING’ acronym.”
What do you think of when you hear the word SOARING?
What do the words successful, aspirational or inquisitive mean to you
and how could they be displayed and imagined around the school?
If you are an ‘aspiring’ artist with an ‘inquisitive’ and ‘reflective’ mind who is ‘open’ to the challenge and prepared to ‘not
give up’ until it's done, you might be ‘successful’ and find you ‘grow’ as a person just by taking part…
WE NEED YOU!
The aim of the competition will be to find the best and most original way to visually display our SOARING model around
the school (so that everyone who sees the image, thinks of our school and it's learning aims).
It can be a model using text or a POSTER with images added or even just a ~symbol#
Think about the colours you use and the images that inspire you when you think of the word SOARING. It can be 3D to
make it really stand out, or made from just about anything you can find! Be cRe@tiv3 and have fun.
We are hoping that we can enlist the help of a graphic designer to help turn the winning idea into a
professional image we can use for many years to come, now who wouldn't want to be part of that?
You will have until MONDAY 26th FEBRUARY to complete and hand in your design/model/poster.
We can't wait to see your ideas!
