Amidst the busy academic life at IIM Kozhikode, fun is an element that one keeps
craving for. To satiate this thirst for fun, Cultural Committee or CULCOM, as it is more
popularly known on campus, proves to be a messiah of sorts. Be it a festival celebration
or Echoes, the much awaited cultural fest of IIM Kozhikode, Culcom ensures that the
case studies and quizzes dont get to gobble up the crazy part of you.
Roobaroo is one such event which we present to you to mark the start of your
awesome two years at K. The time to showcase almost any kind of talent that you might
have and try your hand at a variety of things like singing, dancing, ramp walks, quizzing,
oration, theater etc is here. The onus of defending your section name is on your
shoulders. You either live for your section or you die fighting for it!
The event details and the rules for them are explained in the following pages. In case of
any clarification, feel free to contact any of the committee members.

The above excerpt from the famous animation movie Megamind sums up this event. You
are nothing special unless you can present yourself and what you stand for. The way you
present your section and its theme is an integral part of Roobaroo and bringing this to the
fore is rewarded.
Points allocated: 1st Place 40, 2nd Place -30, 3rd Place- 20
Event Rules
Each section has to decide a theme and design a concept around it, complete
et al with section T-shirts, Section slogan, logo, mascot, Posters/Flexes etc
A canvas shall be allocated to each section in the Auditorium to display their
posters/flexes etc
No bar on the extent of creativity
Parameters of evaluation are:
o Theme concept
o Section jingle
o Section Name (Angaarey, Barood, Cannibals, Dhurandhar, Enfernos,
Funklaab)
o Section logo
o T-shirts, section participation, energy level for your section throughout
Roobaroo
o Canvas allocated to each section
All this would be judged over the entire period of Roobaroo

Foo Fighters
Video + Sledging
Well, yeah we said that minding your profanity was essential throughout Roobaroo but
we didnt talk about these 4 minutes yet, did we?
Where else could you utter the goriest combinations of the English alphabet and walk
away scot free? We give you 4 minutes to show the other sections down using as much
verbal creativity as you can garner. Are you game?
Points Allocated: 1st Place-60, 2nd place-45, 3rd place- 30
Event Rules
Each section has to make a video portraying their journey during Roobaroo and
their section spirit
Time limit for each sections video is 5 minutes
The video should be submitted to the event POC 1 hour before the event starts
Other than this, each section would be allocated a total of 4 minutes of stage
time for sledging with no limit on the number of people on stage
2 minutes out of this would be for sledging NOT containing any female-oriented
abuses
NOTE: Abuses directed against any individual in particular would not be
tolerated and a strict penalty would be rewarded

Sledgefest
Defend your section
Did someone say that youre just another brick in the wall? Well, its time to show them
that youre quite the contrary. In fact, you are the entire wall defending your section
while others use their paper ammunition against you. You are the fortress that protects
your section-mates from the enemy soldiers. You are fully loaded on your oratory-gun.
How long can you hold on before the wall crumbles down?
Points Allocated: Only 1st Place- 40
Event Rules
3 minutes of stage time to defend your section while avoiding paper balls, and
the customary sledging from the crowd
Individual event, maximum of 2 speakers to participate from each section
Maximum of 3 participants from each section for sledging, jeering, throwing
paper balls while the speaker is onstage
Parameters of evaluation are:
o Coherence of speech
o Continuity
o Humor and wit
o Strength of argument
o Spontaneity
Extra points for cheering, jeering and audience enthusiasm
NOTE: The paper balls should be brought by the section teams themselves and 2
minutes would be given towards the end to clean the room

The Fashion Show
The famous quote writer Anonymous once said, There is a model in all of us, only this
time, he was much more convincing than the other times and much more true.
The scene is set. The spotlight is on you as 700 eyes adore the panache with which you
carry yourself. The crowd is cheering for you. You, my friend, indeed are a model! Walk
the ramp even if you have never done it before. Who knows you might be amongst those
who realize their destiny a bit late?

Only one team per section
No bar on the team strength
Time limit is 12 minutes per team (including set-up time)
Parameters of evaluation are:
o Theme each team will have to convey their theme beforehand
o Costumes & Dresses
o Coordination
o Creativity & Innovation
Music, costumes, props etc have to be arranged for by the teams themselves
Music and any sorts of visuals need to be submitted to the event POC 1 hour
before the scheduled start

Six String Showdown
Instrumental Solo
The stage was set hundreds of thousands of eyes gazed at the mesmerizing lights. It was
The Doors that was performing live. The famous concert in which Jim Morrison passed out
on the stage (oh yes there were many more such moments) while Ray Manzarek kept
the audience glued through his weapon, the keyboard.
Now, The Doors was indeed incomplete without Ray Manzarek. If you can amaze the
audience through an instrument, this is the platform to showcase that talent of yours. Plug
in and riff us apart!

You have been acting all your life my friend and will keep doing so but now its time to
take it up on the stage. Bring alive the actor in you, your section needs you!

Tickle the Funny Bone
Standup Act
We define EOI (Entertainment on Investment) as the ratio of entertainment provided by
the number of people involved in the act. Now, Standup is one such act which allows
you to have a healthy figure of EOI. So, if you feel that you have the stamina to pump up
an audience of 700 people, its time to get your timing right.
Points allocated: 1st Place 30, 2nd Place -20, 3rd Place- 10
Event Rules
Maximum of 2 entries per section (solo, duo or group)
Time limit is 2-3 minutes per entry
Mimicry, jokes, special art/talent, mono-act, shayari, magic tricks or any other
activity that can entertain the crowd
Parameters of evaluation are:

o Uniqueness

SPENT Quiz
There are people who just pray for movies, games and TV series that never ends. It is no
matter to them if the high lords play their Game of Thrones, so long as they are left in
peace. Their dinner table conversations can be primarily tagged with words pertaining
to Movies, TV Series, Comics, Football matches, Cricket games, etc.
This event just builds on these conversations and tries to take it to the next level of
madness.

The idea is to talk continuously about a given topic in English without stuttering,
stammering, grammatical errors, pausing unduly etc.
If any of the above objections are found, other participants can buzz and tell the
moderator what their objection is. If found valid, the person who objected gets to
speak
Humor/sarcasm will get you extra points
The moderator can always be swayed by crowd reaction, so make sure your entire
section is backing you
Other detailed rules shall be explained on the spot

Almost a year has passed since we went through the madness of Roobaroo but the only
thing that makes us relive those memories is the photographs. They captured a moment
thats gone forever, impossible to reproduce but still evoking emotions every time we flip
through them.`

Theme: Roobaroo preparation
Maximum of 1 photo entry daily per section starting from July 9, 2014 to July 13,
2014
Editing in Photoshop or any other software not allowed
The entries should be mailed before 23:59 hours daily to the event POC
The format for submission should be a photograph with the name Section
Name_date and should have a caption in the body of the mail. The subject of
the mail should be the same as the file name (eg: Darindey_ddmmyy)
Only those sections that have submitted all 5 photographs before the deadlines
would be considered
The entries will be uploaded on the facebook page of The Cultural Committee,
https://www.facebook.com/Culcom.IIMK every day.
The number of likes on the photo has 50% weightage in the final score

signifies a certain aspect of their business.
