IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PRAYER LISTS
The Church calls us to lift our brothers and sisters up in prayer when they are sick or struggling. The Parish continues to receive word about our parishioners who are ill, and we also receive requests about their well-being by others and ask why their names are not published. Since some of the members of our parish request that their names not be published when they are ill it becomes difficult. We strive to respect everyone’s privacy along with trying to provide prayer support to all.
We hope to list the members of our parish who are currently in need of our prayers, a visit, a note, or a phone call. To add a name to the listing, please contact the person first to make certain they want such information published and then contact the parish office at 248.545.2310.
If you wish prayer during a time of illness or difficulty for yourself or for a family member, please contact the office by e-
mail at [email protected] or by phone at 248.545.2310.
PLEASE NOTE...In order to keep our sick, their families and caregivers and the special intentions of our parishioners prayer list current, names on will remain on this list for 4 weeks. After that time names will be deleted. If you wish a name to remain on the prayer list for an additional four weeks please contact the parish office at 248.545.2310, stop by the welcome desk after mass or send an email to:
[email protected] to let us know. Thank you.

Fervor
O God, giver of good gifts, you sent your Holy Spirit to renew your people
and to enliven their fervor for the Gospel. Shine upon us the light of your face
and lead us to seek your truth and grace. Fill us with your sevenfold gift;
warm the chill of our hearts; grant us peace and heal our wounds;
revive our spirits and stir up a desire to confess your name, so that, renewed by your grace during this Easter season,
we may avoid sin and grow in the fruits of your Spirit. Shower us with your enduring love
and make us faithful witnesses of your wondrous works. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Sunday, May 20, 2018—Excitement and Chaos
Today’s Readings: Acts 2:1–11; Psalm 104:1– 2, 24, 29 – 30, 31,
34; 1 Corinthians 12:3b– 7, 12 –13 or Galatians 5:16 – 25; John 20:19 – 23 or 15:26 – 27; 16:12 –15.
The scene we hear about in Acts 2 is filled with excitement and a bit of chaos. Imagine yourself gathered with the faithful disciples and suddenly you hear “a sound like the rush of a violent wind” and see tongues of fire appearing. What comes to your mind? The disciples were still processing the death and Resurrection of Christ and discerning their next move. Jesus promised them an Advocate that would send them to the ends of the earth. Jesus trained them to go out to tell of God’s mercy and love, but fear and uncertainty locked them away.
During Lent, the Church invited us to turn away from sin, and during these fifty days of Easter, we celebrated the gift of God’s redemption. Today, as we close our formal celebration of Easter, we reflect on the power of the Holy Spirit filling the hearts of disciples throughout the ages. At Baptism, we received the Holy Spirit, who sends us forth to share the Gospel. How have you been roused by the Holy Spirit to work within your community and to share the Good News? Think about how you might use your gifts to help build up God’s kingdom.

Ordinary Time
After Pentecost, the Church enters the second period of Ordinary Time. During the summer and fall months, as the readings bring us to reflect on mission and discipleship, we celebrate solemnities, feasts, and memorials of women and men who dedicated their lives to the Gospel. Reading about some of these saints and contemplating their story and the Scriptures on their feast day may encourage you to live more genuinely in hard times and celebrate joyfully in good times. As you reflect on the lives of the saints over the next few months, consider concrete ways you and your family might serve your community. Think of the saints as your traveling companions and make time for a discussion of them.

God of Glory, your beloved Son has shown us that true worship
comes from humble and contrite hearts. Bless our brothers and sisters,
who have responded to the needs of our parish and whom have committed themselves to your service
as liturgical and music ministers. Grant that their ministry may be fruitful and our worship pleasing in your sight.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
Saint of the Week
Saint Mary Magdalene De’ Pazzi May 24
Saint Mary Magdalene de’ Pazzi is known as the “ecstatic saint” because of her unusual gifts from God. To safeguard the authenticity of her visions, her confessor had her dictate them to fellow sisters. The result was five volumes encompassing ecstasies, letters, and inspirational sayings. But her life was not all sweetness; she also battled with temptations.

Catholic Services Appeal
2018 C)$%#*9/ S&"@9/&, A((&)* (CSA)
E ach year, we have the opportunity to grow with Jesus through the CSA. As faithful stewards of God’s grace,
we live out the Gospel mission of our Church when we embrace the valuable ministries, programs, and services our annual appeal supports. The CSA unites us as a faith community because no one individual or parish could possibly accomplish alone all of these good works that we are able to do together! Because of the CSA and all of the good it accomplishes, we grow with Jesus to become, in the words of Pope Francis, a “band of joyful missionary disciples.”
Gifts to the CSA make possible a wealth of ministries, programs, and services that touch the lives of thousands of Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit each day. No one parish, on its own, could provide all of the blessings that benefit so many.
The CSA is a pledge program, allowing you to spread your gift over several months. Please, prayerfully consider the most generous gift possible to support the 2018 Catholic Services Appeal.
The Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish 2018 CSA Target is $42,817
