CHURCH CLEANING SCHEDULE (WEEK OF:) Jan. 6 - St. Bernadette Angels
Jan. 13 - Choir Jan. 20 - Religious Ed.
LIGHT OF THE WORLD Epiphany can be understood as an extension of the Na-tivity of the Lord that we celebrate on December 25. While at Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish people, on Epipha-ny we celebrate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all nations—Jews, Gentiles, and all people. The star shines so brightly that it attracts magi who come from far distant countries to worship Jesus. They are not Jews, yet they are drawn to the Light of the world. The letter to the Ephesians reveals that the Light of the world was for the Gentiles as well as the Jews—Christ gathers all people into the light of his love. The reading from Isaiah also describes a gathering of diverse peoples, but this time it is to the light that emanates from the people of God.

EPIPHANY HOUSE BLESSING Although there are fine texts for the blessing of homes, neither , the Book of Blessings nor Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers explains the traditional method for blessing homes this day using incense, chalk (an incarnational image because it reminds up of the dust of the earth from which we were made), and “Jordan Water”. The chalk is used to mark over doorways. *see above picture* the numerals consecrate the new year. The initials remind us of the legendary names of the magi - Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar—and also stands for the Latin Motto Christus mansionem benedicat (“May Christ bless the house”). After Mass we will distribute chalk to each household so you may bless your home for the new year. Instructions for blessing the home for the Epiphany can be found in the Christmas Season bulletin “Keeping the Christmas Season at Home.”
