REST IN PEACE
Mary T. Buchanan
CANDLE INTENTIONS
Church: Bridget Onufre Kochuck Convent: Mary Selfridge
First Reading: This account of the early Church comes like a brief interlude of peace in the dramatic ups and downs described in the Acts of the Apostles. Notice the sequence--the believers devote themselves to “the teaching of the apostles.” to the “communal life,” to “the breaking of the bread”. Out of this way of life flow amazing generosity and a miraculous growth.
■ Responsorial Psalm 118: 118 is a prayer of thanksgiving. In the second weverse, the Church has long heard the voice of Christ, “hard-pressed and ...falling”, who has been raised by the right hand of God.
■ Second Reading: In the formal blessing with which the letter begins, we hear some of the primary themes of this brief exhortation. The community rejoices to have found “new birth” in Jesus Christ. The paradox of the Christian life--already rejoicing in the risen life, even though we do not yet possess it fully--is clearly expressed here. The last words of today’s passage, about seeing and believing, offer a fitting commentary on today’s Gospel reading.
■ The Gospel: Thomas was absent when the risen Lord appeared and breathed his gift of peace upon the others, and now he stubbornly refuses to believe their testimony. Even seeing will not be enough for Thomas--he wants to put his finger into the nail marks in Jesus’ hands, and to put his hand into his pierced side. Jesus grants his prayer. Thomas proclaims Jesus as Lord and God. The conclusion of the reading is addressed to each of us--the words of the Gospel are written for us, that hearing may lead us to faith and faith to life through Jesus Christ.

The goal of the program is to provide sustenance to individuals and families who, for many reasons, do not have enough to eat. If you are in this situation simply contact the parish office at 973-338-9190 for assistance. If you answer a few questions, we'll do our best to assist you. If you know of a parishioner that you feel may have this need, please make them aware of the program and have them contact us. Food Collection

Excerpt from REDISCOVER CATHOLICISM
"It is interesting and important to note that the habits that diminish us can be acquired with virtually no effort and are usually the result of acting without any real thought, while the habits that allow us to celebrate and defend the - best - version - of - ourselves require real effort and an openness to God. These habits could include eating foods that respect and fuel the body --- being patient with people when they frustrate you, and making time for prayer and reflection each day. The good news is we can change our habits."

St. Thomas the Apostle Mission Statement
The Roman Catholic faith community of St. Thomas the Apostle recognizes God’s call to be a sign of His Kingdom in the communities we serve. We respond to this call by:
† Leading people to a deeper relationship with Christ by providing opportunities for spiritual growth, renewal, education, the celebration of the Sacraments, and the worship of God in the sacred liturgy;
† Encouraging a commitment to justice and to service of those in need;
† Promoting good stewardship of our time, talent and treasure;
† Building a community of hospitality and support in the daily living out of Christian ideals by nourishing mutual respect and understanding within our Church, our families, our community, and other faith traditions.
THIS IS MY PARISH
It is composed of people like me. We make it what it is.
It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help to fill them.
It will make generous gifts to many causes; if I am a generous giver.
It will bring other people to worship and fellowship; if I bring them.
It will be a church of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith,
and a church with a noble spirit. if I, who make it what it is,
am filled with these qualities. Therefore, with the help of God
I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all things that I want my parish to be.
