President Corner: RGHOA From the desk of: Gary Ackerman

Hello All: Got some good happenings coming for Memorial Day at the NCH/auditorium. Looks like we will again have a full com-plement of HOA Board members at the June 2016 Board meeting, where the appointments to 2nd VP and Secretary will happen. Still time for any HOA member to throw their hat into the appointment pro-cess. Barbara Gilbert will be the new HOA Webmaster. Everyone must remember that any item you want posted on our HOA website MUST be submitted in writing and sent to the site webmaster. With the de-parture of many of our seasonal residents, the community is definitely much quieter. Plans are well under way for a 4th of July community picnic. Final plan will be announced and posted in plenty of time for all to make room in their schedule of events. I have received a number of inquiries from HOA members offering to be part of Negotiation and Prospectus committees. Still would like to see a few more interested parties apply. Best Regards/Gary Ackerman

ROLLING GREENS SALES OFFICE A MESSAGE OF GOOD NEWS

Our dear friends from up North have left to their summer dwellings and those who are left are the privileged ones that decided to make Rolling Greens their full-time residence. I must confess that there has not been a single time when I have had second thoughts about making this place my home. As I drive my golf cart back and forth to and office, I have the oppor-tunity to stop, say hello and have a short chat with those I meet while they have their exercise walk or are taking their dogs for a stroll and I must say it is a very rewarding experience. The other part of this good news message affects those of you that are selling your houses. We have had an exceptional number of walk-in potential buyers, some have purchased and others have not, but it is a rule of numbers, the more we get, the better our chances become. But we will not sit back and rely on our success. The joint effort of Newby Realty/Rolling Greens and mine, to maintain the highest exposure in the internet is an every day commitment and it's paying back because we continue to receive daily inquiries about the homes we have for sale. This means that if you trusted us for the sale of your home, you are in good hands and it is all a matter of time and God's design. My love and blessings to all. Francis Tholenaar

F.M.O. By Jo Anne Fieschel The FMO met at Foxwood Farms MH Park on April 27th. The meeting was well attended by numerous parks from District 13. Over refreshments, attendees discussed problems within their mobile home parks. I found it very interesting as to how many communities are currently in litigation with their park owners. On April 1st, Governor Scott signed into law SB826 effective July 1, 2016. This law requires that the Dept. of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) imple-ment HOA board training by Oct. 1, 2016 and that HOA board mem-bers must comply by Oct. 1, 2017. If you are not a member of the FMO, it is time to join. Our legislators are constantly trying to charge sales tax to mobile home property rent. So far, the FMO has been successful in exempting us from this tax. But in order to be strong in Tallahassee, the FMO needs your membership. Think about it. The FMO is your only voice in Tallahassee.

Area 4 Director Report By Bonnie Quackenbush

"Live beneath your means. Return everything you borrow.

Stop blaming other people. Admit it when you make a mistake.

Give clothes not worn to charity. Do something nice and try not to get caught.

Listen more, talk less. Every day, take a 30-minute walk.

Strive for excellence, not perfection. Be on time.

Don't make excuses. Don't argue.

Get organized. Be kind to people.

Be kind to unkind people. Let someone cut ahead of you in line.

Take time to be alone. Cultivate good manners.

Be humble. Realize and accept that life isn't fair. Know when to keep your mouth shut.

Go an entire day without criticizing anyone. Learn from the past. Plan for the future. Live in the present.

Don't sweat the small stuff. It's small stuff."

By David Wolfe I so wish that I had written this but, I have to give credit to a gentleman by the name of David Wolfe, who is unknown to me. I read this the other day and I just think it says so much. Read it and then READ it again and really hear what it has to say. There are so many things that it says that we should all be doing and maybe now is the time to begin! You will be receiving the June issue of The News before June 1st, so if you don't already fly the flag, sure hope you are ready to have your American flag flying proudly for Memorial Day, May 30th and then again for Flag Day, June 14th and Independence Day, July 4th. If you are proud to be an American and the freedom we en-joy, are proud of your military who defend our great nation, then show you are and display our flag, proudly and without excuses! Freedom to fly our flag is far more important than the etiquette of flying it. We need to focus on what's more important. Looking forward to seeing more and more of our Red, White and Blue displayed in Rolling Greens. FAVORITE

R.G. Fire Dept. Equipment The Rolling Greens Volunteer Fire Dept. is an organization that exists to serve our residents, and they remind everyone once again that they have medical equipment to borrow for those needing tempo-rary help. There are wheelchairs, shower chairs, potty chairs, walkers, crutches, canes, etc. For help with any of these, please call: Judy Crites at 724-815-6679, Bob Pennington at 317-828-2652; Bob Quackenbush at 624-1114; or Mike McLinden at 484-1244. Please make arrangements with them when you receive the equipment so that the equipment can be returned later.

VVA Chapter 1085 By Bruce Lamoureux President There will be no regular monthly meeting of VVA 1085 in June, July and August. We hope everyone has a safe summer and look forward to all our members returning in the fall. Remember the Mon-day May 30th, Memorial Day celebration at the ROLLING GREENS auditorium beginning at 12 noon.

R.G. Volunteer Fire Dept. By: Mary Hill Pancake Breakfast The Rolling Greens VFD wants everyone to know that our pan-cake breakfasts will resume on October 8, 2016.

VETERAN: Upon entering the military a veteran took an oath that has no expiration date.

VVA 1085 DONATION TO VET VILLAGE Thank you, Bruce, for delivering the nice picnic tables to our Good Samaritan Veteran Volunteers at Ritz Veterans Village. Our Vets had them assembled in a few hours, and we moved them into the shady picnic area where they will have their cookouts.

We are all grateful for this donation, and look forward to the next picnic there soon. It does take planning to purchase food, assign cooks, etc., but they are worth it and the residents at the Ritz certainly enjoyed the picnic we had for them on May 7th, thanks to a generous donation from Hank Whittier at Vets Helping Vets.

We are working hard on Project Ritz Gardens, and the Ritz driveway is looking much better with new red mulch laid down where only dirt was before. Now that the heat of summer is here, work on the Courtyard is slowing down a bit, but nevertheless, it will look wonderful when completed. We hope your Chapter 1085; Vi-etnam Veterans of America will join us for our next cookout at the Ritz Veterans Village. Please notify me of the next Veterans' Council Meeting, as G.S.C.A. is also interested in becoming members of Vet-erans Council. God bless you for your kindness and help. Anita Frauenshuh, President - Good Samaritan Community Acres, Inc.

The First Official United States Flag: This 13-Star Flag became the Official United States Flag on June14th, 1777 and is the result of the congressional action that took place on that date. Much evidence exists pointing to Congressman Francis Hopkinson as the person responsible for its design. The only President to serve under this flag was George Wash-ington (1789-1797). This Flag was to last for a peri-od of 18 years.

Benevolent News By Bonnie Locke We learned that one of our residents had been living without heat or AC for more than 2 years. This was a health issue as she suffers from asthma. Management provided an AC unit from one of the houses that had been removed. Unfortunately the unit was not func-tional. The sharp eyes of a team member noticed a newer looking unit on a house scheduled for removal; Vickie was contacted and agreed to donate this unit. The next day the resident had a working AC unit. Just a reminder about the Bakeless Bake Sale. Donations can be placed in the HOA box in the Auditorium (NCH), or given to Bonnie Locke, Bunny Weingartner, Joanne Fieschel or Abby McNeel. This fund raiser will run through September 1st.

Thank You Thank you from the family of Amber Peck. We had our final golf scholarship fundraiser held at the Links Golf Course. It was time to give back to all the golfers and volunteers that have helped make our fundraiser such a huge success. Along with great weather and all that wonderful fish that David caught, a fun time was had by all. We raised over $2,000 this year to add to the scholarship, with a balance of about $50,000. If you wish to make a donation to our fund, it’s not too late. Make your check payable to the Amber Peck and John Parker scholar-ship account at the TD Bank. Thank you one and all. Area 2 By Linnea Corneilson HOA Area 2 Director Summer is here! June raced up to us and we are again in slow time and hurricane season. Please let the office and neighbors know if you are going to be gone for a length of time. If we were to face a hurricane, we need to know you are safe. Clean out your gutters and check things in the yard that could fly. But most of all pray that we can enjoy summer with-out nature hitting us with its fury. Now for fun: the HOA board is planning a old-fashioned family picnic for the Fourth of July at noon. Relax and join us at the Auditorium. (See article on particulars.) My husband has re-retired and so we are planning to take the month of June off to visit our sons and their families in Mass, PA and Wisc. I will miss the beautiful Florida blue skies and the pools and all of you, but I hope to come back refreshed and ready to serve. Please tell Rich Allen, as Vice-President, who has been working with the area directors, or any board member if you see something that needs to be addressed. At the last board work session, many of you expressed concerns. I want you to know that I took very seriously the oath I took when I was appointed to the board. I expect to serve without compensation, but I do not expect to be at-tacked by members if I disagree with them on an issue. I promised to work as a team member and to have the inter-ests of the residents of the park as my agenda, not one of my own. I will listen to your ideas and complaints, but I reserve the right to hear other ideas and concerns too. I will do what is in my power to promote the general welfare, safety, com-munication and enjoyment among Rolling Green homeowners and to encourage participation in board social activities. I will encourage us to work with management for all of our better-ment and address any concerns we have and to seek an agreeable solution. I will encourage us all to work together as a team -- both board and members, and I will seek to encour-age all homeowners to join HOA so that we may negotiate with management as a unified voice. We have lived here over eleven years. Both Ed and I know that we made the right decision to move to Rolling Greens. I love the area, the pools, the recreational activities offered and most of all the people. If each of us sat down and made a list of what we "like" and what we "don't like," the "list of likes" would far outweigh the "dislikes." I have found in my 78 years that every job or organization has some things that are not my favorite. But when I focus on the good things and the good people, I know that this is the place for me. I would like to see us all take an oath of membership that we will strive to enhance the good things that we share, and seek solutions to the things we do not like. And accept that every-thing in life will not be exactly as we would make it. Hindsight has proved to me that what God has planned is better than all my ideas. St Francis said it best when prayed, “Let me change the things that are wrong, accept with grace the things that are right, and let me know the difference.”

Area 3 Report By Gary Underwager, HOA Area 3 Director Greetings from Area 3. I was not able to get a letter in last month’s paper, but will try and get caught up this month! First, my wife and I would like to say thank you to all of you for your prayers and thoughts during the time she has been sick. She is getting better, but still not up to par and she doesn't even play golf! Since I last spoke to all of you the "Snow Birds" have flown the coop back up north to that wonderful cool weather. I myself enjoy the warmer weather here in Florida and being here in Rolling Greens. However, if we the residents of this community do not somehow get on the same page, hopefully join the HOA, (only $15.00 per household), and be together as one, to go to management when the time comes and take a stand about the continuing rising of rent, those of us on SS only will be "snowed under." We have some individuals here in the park who think it would be better if your HOA Board was in TOTAL turmoil. Believe it or not, WE the Board do try and do what WE think will be agreeable for all residents, those who belong to the HOA and for those who do not. I, for one, would just like to say to those residents who do not like what WE the Board are doing, look around our community and if there is something that needs to be brought to our attention, follow the proce-dures in place and WE can take what action is necessary. WE can have an enjoyable place to live if WE work together. Remember what happened to the little piggy. He cried WE WE WE all the way home! Do not forget the Memorial Day festivities coming up on the 30th of May. There will be the golf cart parade, flag raising ceremony at the Auditorium, formerly the NCH, and a luncheon for HOA mem-bers only. Please bring your HOA badge with you. If you are going to be here on the 4th of July, we are having a picnic also at the Auditori-um patio. Bring a dish to pass. A good time will be had by all! More on this event to follow! It was good to see more of the older homes on Lakewood by Carlow Terrace being taken out. Thank you, management. Just keep up the process. Guess I will leave you with this. Hope to see you in Church, Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Come join our group. Pastor Chuck is a great guy! Good refreshments also after the service. Hope you all have a great month!

Father’s Day

Dad you were there at my birth, You gave advice for what it was worth, You let me decide if I took it or not. You never left me in an awkward spot, You stuck up for me when I went astray, So Dad, this love is for you on Father’s Day.

If you have a family member who passes away and would like to have a memo-rial service for him/her here in the park, the volunteer fire dept. is here to help. We will provide a beautiful table set-up, cake, coffee, and a guest book. If there would be more food brought by other people, they would help to serve it. This is a response to HUNKY WIDOWER from a single woman, or should I say troll, old bat or hag, who lives here in Rolling Greens. I would like to say how personally offensive I found your arti-cle in the last month’s newsletter. But what I found even more inter-esting was how many of my married friends, both men and women, found it offensive as well. That being said, I would like to add one thing - GET OVER YOURSELF.

Paint Classes OIL PAINTING classes, wet on wet method, are the 2nd Monday of every month. Classes begin at 9am at the West Clubhouse. We go step by step, and at the end of the day you leave with a completed work of art. Unlock the artist within. Call to reserve your spot.

The RG Web by Mike Critchfield ([email protected]) Things are indeed slowing down. Which is fine with your transitory webmaster. We had a safe journey back to the lands of the frozen waters…but it has been extra cold and rainy and we probably

won’t return this early again! But then I looked at the weather report for Ocala and saw temps that read in the 90s…yikes…and it wasn’t even mid-May yet. It is what it is. Hope you all get out and enjoy the planned Memorial Day fes-tivities. We will be thinking of you. Looks like the construction of the golf course extension and the new Sports Complex are moving right along. They should all be broken in before we venture back. Just try not to break any of them before then! The BIG news from your 24/7/365 website is the selection of a new Webmistress! I hope that is the politically correct way to say it. Barbara Gilbert has agreed to step up and become the community webmistress sometime in October after I return and we can make a nice, smooth transition. Barbara is well versed in computers and will bring much needed energy, enthusiasm and ideas to the task. As you see her in and around the community please make sure to thank her for coming forth and wish her luck in her new endeavor. No matter what the task…no matter what the obstacle…no matter how hard the task…there is and always has been someone at Rolling Greens willing to step up and make a difference. Barbara Gilbert, we salute you! Don’t forget, if you want something posted on the website you must email it to the [email protected]. It is YOUR website and only YOU can keep it relevant and complete. I will be eagerly awaiting those emails….

RG Library Corner By Barbara Critchfield Greetings from Ohio. My husband Mike and I arrived back in the Dayton area on May 17th and are still wondering why it seems so cold here as June is just a few days away. On recent mornings when its been in the mid 30's, we often checked to see what the temperature was in Ocala. We just can't seem to get warm yet. I think we may stay longer in Rolling Greens next spring. Thanks to all the residents who have returned the library books they borrowed and thanks also for the many donations of books and magazines. With the addition of the new shelving, we have space for more hardbacks and paperbacks. A couple months ago, we received a generous donation of audio books. Some of the audio books will pro-vide many, many hours of listening if you find yourself inside on a rainy day. There is also a nice selection of movies and we would also be happy to receive any donations of movies that you'd like to pass on to the Library. I had a couple of Nora Roberts paperbacks with me during our trip north, but finished them quickly. I'm now using my Kindle every day, but really miss holding a book in my hand and turning the pages. I really miss being able to flip to the end of a chapter to figure out when I can stop and take a snack break. I've joined a Monday morning exercise class in our community, but miss the exercise class and water aerobics class at Rolling Greens, especially the heated pools. I won't be getting in the pool in Ohio until at least July! Thanks to all the Library volunteers who keep the Library look-ing good, especially to Joanne Fieschel who is the lead volunteer dur-ing my summer in Ohio. Have a great summer. See you in October.

Residents Speak By Joanne Fieschel Why you must join the Homeowners Association. The homeowners association needs your support and membership in order to do the job that they were elected to do. Our Direc-tors have vowed to make this a better community; to listen to your concerns and to take action where need be. The HOA is the liaison between the park owner and homeowner; to make sure the park owner has abided by Florida Statute 723 and our prospectus. We all received an amended prospectus. The PRO-SPECTUS COMMITTEE has been appointed to verify that any changes made are in our best interest. The BY-LAWS COM-MITTEE is diligently changing, correcting and bringing the RGHOA By-laws up to date according to FS723. The RENT NEGOTIATIONS COMMITTEE has an ongoing challenge with our yearly increases in rent. The current contract will expire in Jan. 2020. So much work is involved making comparisons with other mobile home parks; comparing rents, amenities, condi-tions of communities, size and location, as well as area conven-iences, proximity to doctors, and hospitals. All facts must be presented to the park owner for consideration. This is where your membership is extremely important. When the rent negoti-ation committee goes into negotiation with the park owner we must all be in unison to lower the rent increase. If only half of Rolling Greens are members of the HOA, the park owner looks at the non-members as a vote in favor of lot rent increases. The HOA is your voice! Join now and work to make this a better community.

Residents Speaks By Diane Feldman I wish to take this opportunity to thank the community of Roll-ing Greens for allowing me to serve them at each and every home-owners meeting that I was able to attend for the last 5 years. When I arrived here, the folks doing the coffee and donuts were taking a per-manent leave of absence from the job. They had had enough. I felt this was something I could do and wanted to do. Over the years, it has not been easy. I have been asked to stop two or three years running, for various reasons, but I felt this was something I enjoyed doing and wanted to continue to do, so I did. I have had to stop many things over these last years because of my eye disease. The coffee and donuts were still something I could do. It was my pleasure to help out doing this. We used two-100 cup pots for the coffee back then. One of the pots stopped working and the Homeowners Association went out and purchased, at a very large expense, a new coffee maker that makes 12 cups at a time. The new system makes much better tasting coffee. This made it more difficult to get enough coffee made, but I stood there for over two hours each and every meeting, making pot after pot of coffee for all of you good people who attended the meetings. Then, I don’t know how it started or why, but about a year or so ago, coffee was no longer served at the end of the meetings any-more. Those who wanted coffee before or during the meetings were allowed to have it. Why??? The coffee and donuts were always for after the meetings. A few months ago, I stood there for about 1 plus hours and so many of you good people just HAD TO HAVE COFFEE, that with less than an hour left until the end of the meeting, there was less than 10 cups left in the coffee pot. I kept telling all of the good people who needed to have coffee before the end of the meeting, that there would be none left at the end and I was told “I don’t care.” Well, I did. I went to the board members and requested that they put a stop to coffee being served before and during the meetings, so that there would be enough to go around after the meeting for those who enjoyed a cup with their donuts. They announced no more coffee until after the meetings. This did not go over very well with many of the good people who go the meetings, but I would not allow anyone to have any. Last night at the HOA meeting, I was politely informed that the coffee belonged to all of the members of the HOA and the board would be voting on if coffee would be allowed whenever the good people of the community wanted it. I informed Gary that if that vote passed, I would be leaving the kitchen. I would not and could not be responsible to have coffee for everyone before, after and during the meetings. The vote passed and I resigned. Now, the HOA needs someone to fill in for me because I will not stand for over two hours to make sure there is enough for after the meeting ever again. Good luck to the new people who decide they want to accom-modate the good people of this community in each an every one of their individual wants, with no consideration for the rest of the commu-nity and for the folks serving them.
