Objective:• To find the key commodities for India, and region wise analysis to
know best performing side in India.• To analyse each commodity produced from 2001 to 2011.• This project will give more information about commodities
production, each commodity land utilization and its water utilization in each state.• To view water resource development maintained state wise, which is
the important factor that support agriculture development.

Regional Production:• In both 2009 and 2010, Sugarcane is one of the main crops. Uttar
Pradesh is the key state in producing sugarcane followed by Maharashtra. Interesting sugarcane is produced less in eastern part of India that’s because of climate reason which doesn’t support sugarcane production.• Cotton and Jute are the main commercial crops produced in India.
Gujarat and Maharashtra is the largest producer of cotton and West Bengal is the largest producer of Jute.• In India, vegetables which is very important commodity for daily life
cultivated more in eastern states.• And fruits and spices are produced more in southern part of India.• Cereals are more produced in northern part and likely pulses were in
western part of India.

Category Production:• Horticulture remains highest production for both year, in which
plantation contributes more.• Wheat is second highest production in India next to sugarcane, this
weightage make cereals to rank second.• Vegetable and pulses production is decreased from 2009 to 2010
which means olericulture production decreased.• Milk is a important commodity which is consumed more by northern
part is produced more dairy commodity.

Production Analysis:• Till 2011, India has produced 85 Lakh tons of agriculture commodities.• Sugarcane is key commodity from 2002 till 2011 producing 23L tons
which 27% of total production.• Sugarcane, Rice and wheat cover 53% of total production at 2011.• In 2009, commodities like potato, eggplant and other vegetables
grown more.• Nearly 54% of overall agriculture production is made in last four
years.

Area for Agriculture:• 52% of area is used for sugarcane, mango and coconut cultivation.• 115 Lakh hectare of area is utilized for agriculture by southern part
which is the most utilizer by any other region in India.• West Bengal is only state utilizing more than 17% of state area for
agriculture.• Rice, Maize and wheat are the major agricultural commodity which
utilize 50% of area for agriculture.• After mango, citrus utilize more space across India, Maharashtra hold
36hectare for cultivating citrus comparing fruits.• Spices- Ginger and Turmeric consume 88% of area in overall area
covered by species sub-category.

Analysis of Area:• Area used for cultivation in 2009 is increased dramatically, almost it
doubles previous year area utilization.• Potato, Onion, Tomato, Brinjal and other Vegetable cultivation is
improved in 2009.• Mango, Potato and few others vegetable used 40% of area in total
area of cultivation in 2011.• From 2007, coconut has increased in area utilization as his production
increases.• Average land utilization for agriculture is 163522Hectare if there is no
increase in cultivation at 2007 is 141580Hectare.

Area for irrigation by water resource:• Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan has highest water
irrigation area. • To check the consistency of irrigation system in each state, we can
infer that Assam has improved much and Goa irrigation area decreased so much than any other. Reason behind this figure is due to decrease in rainfall in Maharashtra.• Assam increased there source in Tube well and decreased much in
other sources like reservoir, rainfalls, etc.• More over Canals and Tanks maintains consistent water irrigation
system.

Analysis of water irrigation:• Water resource in 2003 is decreases due to insufficient rainfall in
northern India.• Tube wells and wells are highest water system in all over India
followed by Canals.• Indian area under water irrigation is consistent for every level of
factor till 2010.

Summary:• Overall, we can infer that Uttar Pradesh has much agriculture
accommodation compared to all states in India. Region wise, North east utilizing more area for agriculture compared to any other region in India.• Sugarcane is the key commodity in India and India Rank second
followed by Brazil.• Most of needful commodities are produced and exported by India.
