All-Region Band Audition Phase I Saturday, November 3, 2018

Location: Rice Middle School 8500 Gifford Dr,

Plano, TX 75025

Student Name: _______________________________________

Instrument: _______________________________________

Room: _______________________________________

Time: _______________________________________

On Saturday, November 3rd all Symphonic Wind members and select Concert Band I will be students participating in the Region 24 All-Region Auditions. They will be competing against students from Plano, Frisco, Little Elm and Prosper ISD. The times and room numbers will be reviewed and released next week. Once we receive these times, we will distribute them to each of the students. So what is this All-Region Audition thing? It is an audition to become a part of the prestigious All-Region Band. It is the highest honor a Middle School band student can achieve. Once a student is in the All-Region Band, they will participate in a clinic/concert held on November 9th & 10th. The band will be comprised of All-Star players from all over Region 24 and will be conducted by a featured clinician. It is an amazing experience for all that participate! What is the audition comprised of? • 2 major scales (must be memorized) • Chromatic Scale (must be memorized)

• A portion of the Lyrical Etude • A portion of the Technical Etude

Where is this going to occur? Phase I (Saturday, Nov. 3rd) Rice Middle School 8500 Gifford Dr, Plano, TX 75025

Phase II (Monday, Nov. 5th) Nelson Middle School 10100 Independence Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75035

Is transportation provided? No. Students are responsible for procuring transportation to and from the event (Phase I). For students that make the Phase II cut, we will have a bus to bring students to Phase II site, however parents will need to pick up their student when they are finished. What is Phase I and Phase II? Due to the large number of students participating in the All-Region process (over 2000+ students!), we must divide it into two different events. After Phase I takes place on November 3rd, the top performers of that day will then advance to Phase II, which takes place after school on Monday, November 5th at Nelson Middle School. More information will be distributed to advancing students later on.

Do all students advance to Phase II? No. Students that score in the top percentages in Phase I are then advanced to Phase II. How do I find out if my student has made Phase II? The Directors will find out which students are advancing to Phase II after the audition is completed on Saturday. That information will be distribute via band news and posted on the band website. How long is the audition? Every student will be given a specific time to audition. Students should arrive at least 30 minutes before their assigned time. Each room monitor does his or her best to keep the room on time. The audition itself should last 30-45 minutes depending on the room size. Once your student is finished with the audition, they are free to leave. Is this required? It is required for all Symphonic Wind Members to participate. CBI students that have been attending the All-Region sectionals may be invited to attend the event based on their level of preparation. How will I know if my student makes the All-Region Band? If your student advances to Phase II auditions and is placed at the top of their Phase II room, they will be awarded All-Region membership in one of the 5 All-Region Ensembles. There will be a clinic and concert for all members of the All-Region Band on Friday, November 9th and Saturday, November 10th. The final concert will be on November 10th. More information will be released to those that become All-Region members after Phase II auditions. What if I have more questions? Contact a director.
