For in- stance lets take into consideration' the following facts: I The actual cost of construction for: 17 miles of sewers in the Borough of I Union Food Stores Holds Anniversary Local Store, Managed by S. The municipal sewering system in Roclcaw/ty will eliminate forever the detrimental word cesspool that for years hns played its part in retard- ing the progress of our community. Real estate, there is no doubt, will command a higher figure after the municipal sewering system is once put into operation. The Borough of Rockaway will not be asked to make any payment on the loan to the government, either interest or principal, for three years after the loan has been received by thec;borough. Fortunately, and unlike other municipalities, Rockaway has at its disposal the Jersey City sewer trunk line on which It may connect its sewers without cost and enjoy the advantage of the Jeivey City disposal plant, also without cost. Engineers have stated that the cost of building (Continued on Pnee S) enjoyed a fine business and this ha.s been attained only by excellent ser- vice, the sale of high quality mer- chandise, and honest dealing. It must be remembered that the Union Fond Stores should not be confused with the so-called chain store system. Mr. Odierno purchases his stock out- light from the Union Food Store and it is through the vast purchasing power of the concern that Mr. Sllvic is able to sell his goods at, a price fully as attractive as that offered by the chain systems. Mr, Odierno caters almost exclusively to Rockaway bus- iness. There is nothing cheap about the Union Food Store:,. Their reputation has been built solely through the ef- forts of such capable and efficient business men as Mr. Odierno and hie sons, who own and manage Union Pood Stores throughout New Jersey, It would be difficult to list here the many attractive bargains offered by Mr. Odierno in conjunction with the Fourth Anniversary of the or- (Contiiiued on Paje 4) And It Blooms Many persons were Hllractcd to the home of Mrs. Edward GUI last week to view the rather unique spectacle of a. crab apple tree in full bloom at this i.eaMm of the year. The Borough of Rockaway will notbe asked to make any payment onthe loan to the government, eitherinterest or principal, for three yearsafter the loan has been received bythec;borough.

Fortunately, and unlike othermunicipalities, Rockaway has at itsdisposal the Jersey City sewer trunkline on which It may connect itssewers without cost and enjoy theadvantage of the Jeivey City disposalplant, also without cost. Engineershave stated that the cost of building

Mr.Odierno purchases his stock out-light from the Union Food Store andit is through the vast purchasingpower of the concern that Mr. Sllvicis able to sell his goods at, a pricefully as attractive as that offered bythe chain systems. Mr, Odierno catersalmost exclusively to Rockaway bus-iness.

There is nothing cheap about theUnion Food Store:,. Their reputationhas been built solely through the ef-forts of such capable and efficientbusiness men as Mr. Odierno and hiesons, who own and manage UnionPood Stores throughout New Jersey,

to the taxpayers of this communityis going to put the unemployedRockaway citizen back to work. When his week's work is completedTie will receive his money insteadof the customary grocery order that

'has been his sole existence duringthe past two or three years. He isgoing to have a job and with thatjob he wil again regain his place inthe community. I am glad the tax-

payers of our Borough have openedtheir eyes sufficiently to realize thatby putting this municipal seweringsystem in our Borough at this timethey are safeguarding the health ofthis generation and the next andthey are also performing an actualact of mercy in putting our unfor-tunate citizens back to work.

"I am convinced," he said, "thatthere will not be a man in this Bor-ough out of a job this winter if theywant to work and I am informedthat the payroll for this job will beabout $4,500 a week. That meansthat the merchants are going tobegin to collect on back accountsand that the landlords will againcollect rent. I believe that Council-man John Lusardl, Councilman JohnCrane, and Councilman Manuel Se-dano. comprising the committee thathas made this splendid achievementpossible, should be extended thegenerous appreciation of the people•of our community."

Many other citizens of the Bor-ough, including officials, have toldthe Rockaway Record during theweek that they are highly pleasedwith the sewering project due to thework It is going to create this win-

ter. Members of the sewering com-mittee have already been besiegedwith applications for work from theunemployed which clearly indicatesthat Rockaway's idle. In the major-ity of cases, are ready and anxiousto work instead of having to dependon local relief for a livelihood.

William Robshaw of Wall street re-turned to his home here this weekfrom the Presbyterian Hospital inNewark where he underwent anoperation for a serious throat ail-ment. Dr. Sprague, Newark specialist, performed the operation which waspronounced a success. It will be sev-eral days, however, before Mr. Rob-shaw fully recovers his health. "Footlight Parade" to OpenFriday at Newark

"Footlight Parade" the third suc-cessive star-studded Warner musicalextravaganza, opened at the Bran-ford Theatre, Newark, Friday even-ing for an extended engagement.

The opening was accompanied bymuch excitement, and all of the fan-fare incident to a Hollywood Pre-miere or a Broadway "First Night".The entire atmosphere in front ofthe theatre was a gala one, withbanners, decorations, cameras, sou-venirs, confetti, chorus girls, cele-brities from all walks of life, offic-ials, powerful kleig lights and spot-lights which lit up the entire frontof the theatre in a blaze of illum-ination, sky-writing paraphernaliawhich threw its message against theside of Newark's skyscrapers and abombastic display of fireworks whichlasted for thirty minutes.

James Cagney is one of the 20 fea-tured players and makes his debut asa "Song and Dance Man" on th'escreen. It is said that Jimmy'sdancing Is one of the most inter-esting features of the picture andit may well be so., since Jimmystarted his stage career as a "Hoof-er" in vaudeville, still likes that kindof work and never let up on hisdancing since he went "Hollywood."Joan, Blondell plays opposite Cagney<nd w,ifl be remembered for hersinging of the "Forgotten Man"number in "Gold Diggers." It is perfect natural to spendall the money you make, yetyou know that you shouldn't.You know you should be layingsomething aside.

That's why a building andloan investment is such a linething. You resolve on a pro-gram of putting so many dol-lars into your shares each andevery month. You cannot getmaximum returns unless youstick to that program.

When you subscribe forshares you are figuratively put-ting a padlock on part of yourincome. You are making iteasier to resist the temptationsto spend.
