Argentina CD: SHOWBIX (2003) Warner Music Argentina 5046-68886-2 (Tk 5) Notes: Muse is alternative rock band, formed in Teignmouth/ Devon in 1994. “Bellamy has given two statements about what ‘Cave’ is about. Once he said it was about "an old friend of mine" in a strangely warbled voice before a live performance of the song and on a different occasion he stated ‘The idea for Cave came from that rubbish American book, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. There's this bit about how men go into a cave when they get stressed and I think that's probably true, although, personally, I tend to let it out.’” (Anon. 2017a) “Gray states when male tolerance to stressful situations is exceeded, they withdraw temporarily, ‘retreating into their cave,” so to speak. Often, they literally retreat: for example, to the garage, or to go spend time with friends. In their ‘caves,’ men (writes Gray) are not necessarily focused on the problem at hand. Yet this ‘time-out’ lets them distance themselves from the problem and relax, allowing them to re-examine the problem later from a fresh perspective.” (Anon. 2017b)

The lyrics of the first stanza – Leave me alone it's nothing serious I’ll do it myself It's got nothing to do with you And there's nothing that you could do.

But the chorus turns violent – So come in my cave and I’ll burn your heart away So come in my cave and I’ll burn your heart away

The last verse of the repeated chorus changes to – So come in my cave and arrest me for my mistakes.

For full lyrics see under Rock Song Lyrics A to D. This piece was used as a cue in the 2000 film, “Little Nicky,” starring Adam Sandler. Ref: Anon. 2017a, Cave (song), Content, Wikipedia

A rip-roaring affair they call early “punk ska.” It has two stanzas and this chorus – The cave's never coming down on me. the cave really means so much to me 'cause the cave, it only gives I'm glad the cave is where I live.

The chorus is repeated at the end and on the second the last verse goes – I'm glad the cave is where I live alright.

CAVEMAN – FLASHLIGHT RK – New Wave – Vocal & Instrumental Comp: Tom VERLAINE (LY-RK) Rts: Phonogram Ltd.

Perf: Tom VERLAINE (vocal & guitar)

Fred Smith (bass) Allen Schwartzberg (drums) Prod: Dave Bascombe & Tom Verlaine Prod. Co: Phonogram Ltd.; London Time: 3:11 A. British EP: A TOWN CALLED WALKER Fontana FTANA 112 B B. Dutch EP: A TOWN CALLED WALKER Fontana 888 338-1 Notes: (Both) 12" 45rpm (Sd 2 – Bd 1) Notes: Verlaine played with Patti Smith and the group Television.

Also in 1987 Verlaine released an LP album entitled, “Flash Light,” which included the song “A Town Called Walker” and its album title may have something to do with this song title. It was not possible to learn the names of the personnel for “Caveman – Flashlight,” but assuming the same two musicians that performed on the Flash Light LP album also perform on this piece, those names are tentatively provided here. Three rather vague stanzas where stanza 3 makes things a little clearer – III. Caveman - flashlight Cave girl – firelight Caveman – seem to me to be inside Cave girl – moon light You look so beautiful There in the damp hall Can you say that you're a fool?

Caveman – flashlight First impressions – in the good night Cave girl – firelight Sweet expressions – you're alright.

Robert Lennon, associate professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. This album is presented as a “mélange of geek, dorktronica (sic), and fuzz-folk, with a bit of psychedlica (sic) tossed in for good measure,” whatever all that means. (Anon. n.d.) J. Robert Lennon is a novelist, short story writer, composer, and musician. As a solo artist, recording as Inverse Room, he has released three full-length CDs. (Anon. 2017) This was his first album. Co: St Nom la Bretêche Time: 4:10 Label: RCA Victor PB 8912 Flip Sd: Heros Spec: 7" 45rpm Notes: A French rock song where the singer tells about taking a time machine trip back into prehistoric times and finding himself naked in a cave surrounded by strange types. The repeated chorus is in English – “I’m a poor lonesome Cromagnon man,” and when it comes back after the first stanza, the sound effects of baby cries are heard. For full lyrics see under Rock Song Lyrics A to D. The picture cover designed by Belle Journée En Perspective, a French Photographs Collective, uses a photo of a Native American, which has absolutely nothing to do with prehistoric Cro-Magnon man. The above illustrations are: 1. The comic book cover for Web of Mystery, no. 5, where the bubble text reads “Wha…!! A Cro-Magnon man! What horror have I brought into being with my new secret potion?” and 2. A reserved table marker from the Hotel de Cro-Magnon at Les Elyzies in the Dordogne department of France. This hotel is located close to the shelter cave where the Cro-Magnon skeletal remains were first discovered. A damp and cool hideaway We got lost Till the monkey’s paw pointed through An opening to the sky The creature of the cave is pale white Hidden by the day until the night Then he climbs up through the opening to the stars

Notes: New wave pop band from the Netherlands, active from 1979 until 1987. A slow, steady entreaty sung by a gravelly voice where it was not possible to transcribe the lyrics. “Out here where the caveman dwells” was heard as part of the chorus, a repeated verse. The bridge is on keyboards. All ends with the “Out here where the caveman dwells” verse repeated four times followed by another verse. Both labels, 45 single & 12” maxi, for this number say that it was taken from the Epic LP album, “Under the Surface.” It was not, only the flip side “America” appears on the LP. Co: Blueport Records; Newcastle on Tyne Rec. Co: Metro Studios; Swalwell Time: (?) Label: Blueport BLU-5 Diesel LA FUME on record label Flip Sd: At the Quayside Spec: 7" 45rpm Notes: A Northern Irish rock 'n' roll outfit from Belfast that had been recording for a small, poorly distributed independent label. A few European rock critics got excited about this one, calling it a brilliant track, "some great sax work" (Garrad 1980), "a new kind of rhythm-rock, with almost South-American influences… something of a step forward into new regions…There is Voodoo rhythm and amazin’ beat… an astonishing ability to transfer strange things into (straight) rock 'n' roll music" (Klitsch 1980a). In their enthusiasm the critics saw similarities between this group and several different greats of the past such as Bo Diddley, Dr. John (Rebennack), Eddie & the hot Rods, and Bob Dylan. The Sabrejets did a tribute to Billy Lee Riley titled, "Going Down to Memphis." "Syreeta," who is mentioned in the lyrics, was Syreeta Wright a Tamla-Motown singer/ songwriter, who married Stevie Wonder. My vote would put this amazing piece as number one cave-inspired song in the new wave all-time charts. This song was used for the "Bal Spéléo" which followed the banquet at the 2000 National Congress of the Fédération Française de Spéléologie.
