Grabbers
ClawsBuckets- yes, I know it’s not a bucket but I couldn’t find a picture of a robot with buckets for arms.
Grabbers
Attached to metal or plastic arms
Small motors at the joints Bits of rubber at the tips Claws are good because... They have more precision
than buckets Claws are bad because... They can only pick up one
thing at a time

Buckets are good because...
They have retention Buckets are bad
because... They’re imprecise

Kit PartsHexbug
The HEXbugs are designed as a fundraiser
They are small, toy robot-bugs
They can be bought from the VEX website and sold at 50% profit by the Robotics Team
Kit PartsPotentiometer Kit
Useful for autonomous: measures angular position, ie. Making the robot “aware” of the position and motion of its components, and therefore its actions.
A separate Programming Kit is needed to use the potentiometer
Cost €11.99 from VEX website
Design Elements: Front intake Claws/ buckets/scoop Description/ pros and cons of claws/buckets
given previously Scoop Funnel-shaped, attached to an “arm”, possibly
with a valve at the narrower end The balls can be scooped up into the funnel, and
then stored there while the robot goes to the goal. Then the funnel can be raised above the goal, and the valve opened so that the balls fall into the goal.*
Design Elements: Front intake The scoop is good because it is easy to
drop the balls into the goals The scoop is bad (relative to the claw)
because a separate design is necessary to hang from the bar at the end of the game.
* this description of how to use the scoop would only work for the Buckyballs; for the large balls the funnel would have to be tipped upside down.
