AN ACE Pathway

GRANT INFO ACE was awarded a $225,000 Specialized Secondary Program grant to create two new courses focused on Robotic Engineering. The grant also funded the Maker Space used by robotics students. The grant funds teacher time, site visits, and conferences until the end of summer 2017.

Robotics Workshop (Advanced Robotics)

In this course students use their skills to develop a solution to a real-world problem using robotic technology. This individual project-based course uses modern technology including 3D printing, embedded computers, programming, and CAD-based laser cutting to build prototype solutions.

Introduction to Robotics and Electronics

In this course students learn the basics of robotics including electric circuits, basic programming and interfacing, and simple engineering through a series of teacher-designed projects. The theme of the class is transportation.

AP Computer Science Students learn advanced programming skills as they prepare for the AP Computer Science test.

AP Physics 1 Students learn about force, motion, and energy in a physics course designed to support engineering majors and prepare students for the AP Physics exam.

PATHWAY DESIGN

first robotics A team from the after school Robotics Enrichment program is competing in this year’s FIRST robotics competition. For more information contact Terry Palmer ([email protected])

MAKER SPACE

A Maker Space is a place where equipment is used to create objects. ACE has a Maker Space adjacent to

room 511.

AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT

• 3-D printers• Laser cutters• Drill presses• Simple fabrication tools• Arduino computers• Raspberry Pi computers• Electronics Snapcircuits • Tetrix Robot Kits• Soldering irons• Electric meters• Prototyping breadboards

Course Frameworks designed for this course include activities such as:

Unit 2: Build a Dumb Car

What is the essence of a car? Students will build several cars with no electronic components. Available power sources will be rubber bands, balloon (compressed air),mousetrap (spring), and fan (rubber band).

Unit 3: Electricity/ Circuit Diagrams/ Electronics

Students will be learning electrical concepts that apply to robotics including current, voltage, resistance, and power. They will be designing series, parallel, and combination circuits and use multimeters to see how the current, voltage, and power vary from one circuit to another.
