2. Main Roads that surround the community include Interstate 70, Highway 40, and Highway 27 3. Several commercial and shopping areas are located throughout Richmond They are evenly distributed around the city. 4. Many different options exist for housing: Apartments, single story homes, two story homes, mobile homes, duplexes and mobile homes. Homes range from new to old, nice to run down. 5. There looked to be a lot of open space. Most of it looked privately owned and was either bare or had trees. There is a large park that includes a concert venue, playground equipment and a skate park. The open spaces ranged from well kept to overgrown. I did not see a lot of trash and no abandoned cars in these spaces 6. Playground at Glen Miller Park 7. Concert venue at Glen Miller Park 8. Shopping includes a mall, several shopping centers, grocery stores, multiple drug stores and Walmart and Meijer. 9. There are many schools in the area. According to the Richmond IN web site these include public, charter, parochial schools as well as Universities and Seminaries. 10. The Richmond, IN website states there are 66 churches located in this community including many different faiths. There was evidence that churches were used for other things, such as preschools. 11. Healthcare is a large part of the Richmond community. Reid hospital and their affiliates can be seen throughout town. Many other medical offices and dental offices exist as well. Chiropractic and massage as well as a health food store are available. The city does have social services and welfare available. I did see a senior center and a boys and girls club. 12. Transportation in this area is mostly by car. People also walk and bike. There is public transportation available, but it is limited. This is a bus with limited routes and is only available Monday-Friday 6:15am-5:45 pm and on Saturday from 9:15 am- 4:45 pm. Streets are paved and in good condition. Speed limit signs are posted. There are areas of high traffic throughout the city. The major highway is I-70 which serves both the community and people from across the United States. 13. Protective services are available with both fire stations and fire hydrants. There was evidence of Neighborhood watch programs. The YWCA is a homeless shelter for women and the Hope House Halfway House is a homeless shelter for men, there is no homeless shelter for families. There are five fire stations located throughout the city. Richmond has one police department with 81 police officers. Richmond is well above national average in crimes per capita. 14. The Richmond Municipal building houses the Mayors office, City Clerk office, Police Department, and the City Counsel Chambers. 15. Neighborhood life is quiet now because it is cold and winter. There is no evidence of homelessness, or any interactions between neighbors. There are a couple of museums, areas like Historic Richmond where old factories have been converted to shops, pubs, jazz clubs and restaurants. The only animal I saw was a dog wandering down the street. 16. As it was cold not a lot of pedestrians were seen, but as the weather warms up many people walk around the colleges and bike around town. 17. Where to find government offices and resources as well as tourist attractions are well marked with signs pointing the way. 18. Things to do include the Indiana Football hall of Fame, A history museum, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, a park, and a theatre. 19.
