ThePunjabandHaryanahighcourthasaskedtheHaryanagovernmenttoidentifyandflattenallspeedbreakersthatdon'tadheretostandards
2016: Delhi HC orders removalThe Times of India, May 26 2016A bench of Justices B D Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva said speed breakersconstructed on public roads without authorisation or recommendation of trafficpolice and not conforming to prescribed norms are “unauthorised“ and must beremoved. The high court gave four weeks to all civic bodies--the three municipalcorporations, public works department, New Delhi Municipal Council, DelhiCantonment Board and Delhi Development Authority--which are responsible formaintaining the roads in the capital. The court also directed the traffic police and the civic bodies to ensure that speedbreakers which do not conform with the guidelines of Indian Road Congress andthe Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering)Centre are not constructed. The court said that plastic or PVC speed breakers must also be removed if theyfail to conform with the guidelines and if they haven't been cleared by the trafficpolice. The high court also directed the agencies to put up signage, according tothe guidelines, which will help the commuters to know there is a speed breaker.
