ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION SUNDAY 2 JULY 2017 PLAN AHEAD On Sunday 2nd July Scotland will host the first IRONMAN 70.3 Edinburgh, using locations and roads in the East Lothian, Midlothian and Edinburgh areas. To ensure athlete and public safety, temporary road closures will be in place and the information contained here is to inform businesses and residents so that you can plan your day to minimise any impact from the event. IRONMAN triathlons are a global series of events covering either 140.6 or 70.3 miles of swim, bike and run, completed as one continuous event. Two thousand athletes from more than forty countries are expected to compete. The athletes will start the swim at 7am at Cockenzie, followed by the 56 mile bike and complete the event in Holyrood Park with a 13.1 mile half marathon. The fastest athletes will complete the event in around 4 hours, with the final athlete allowed 8½ hours to cross the finish line. IRONMAN events are a highlight of the year in existing locations across the globe. IRONMAN 70.3 Edinburgh, is supported by Event Scotland, Edinburgh City, East Lothian and Midlothian Councils and planned in coordination with Police Scotland and the emergency services. The temporary road closures that will be in place on IRONMAN 70.3 Edinburgh race day are implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation (Special Events) Act 1994, and apply to all vehicles, including bicycles, not involved in the event. We would ask that: Avoid parking on the bike course for safety reasons. Pedestrians can cross the course at any time when safe to do so, please take extra care. Essential access for carers will be facilitated. Please contact [email protected] There are NO RESTRICTIONS at any time to the emergency services DETOUR ADVICE: The A1, A720 City Bypass are not affected by the event and may provide the best alternative route. Prestonpans, Cockenzie & Port Seton 1 st July 2 nd July 08:00 – 18:00 The B1348 from Appin Drive to B6371 East Lorimer Place is closed to through traffic with access available up to Whin Park Ind. Est. 06:30 – 10:30 The B1348 from Appin Drive through to A198 Lyars Road, Longniddry is closed. Access is available via B1361 & A198 up to Longniddry or via the A1. Aberlady 2 nd July 06:30 – 10:30 There is no through route between Aberlady and Longniddry using the A198 or A6137. A diversion is available at all times via Drem and the A1. Longniddry 2 nd July 06:30 – 10:30 The course uses B1348 Links Road and A198 Lyars Road on to the B1377 heading east. There is no access along the B1348, A198 or B1377 during this time. Access is available to Longniddry via the A1 Bankton junction. Gullane, Dirleton, Drem 2 nd July 06:30 – 10:30 There is no access along the A198 or A6137. Gullane access and egress is via Drem, B1377 and following signs for Chester Hill Fort using A1 at Abbotsview Junction. Haddington 2 nd July 07:00 - 10:30 The course uses Hope Park, Station Rd and then West Rd, towards Edinburgh. Vehicle access will be restricted but roads to the east and south of the course will provide access to the A1 via the Abbotsview Junction. Pencaitland, Ormiston 2 nd July 07:30 - 11:00 08:00 – 13:00 The bike course travels from Gladsmuir to East Saltoun on the B6355. Access to the A1 remains available for residents through Ormiston to Tranent and the A1. A managed crossing point will allow vehicles to cross the course in the direction of Haddington, when safe to do so. Please Note The bike course returns from Gifford, via East Saltoun and Cousland to Old Craighall and heads to Holyrood Park. Resident access south and west (A68 and the City Bypass) need to travel north to the A1 first during these time. East Saltoun 2 nd July 07:30 – 12:30 Bike course travels out to Gifford and turns to use West Crescent towards West Saltoun. No vehicle access to Main Street B6355 via either Pencaitland or Gifford and West Crescent. Access is available North to Haddington via Saltoun East Mains and Bolton or south towards Petersmuir for vehicles with direct accesses to these roads. Gifford 2 nd July 07:30 – 12:30 The bike course travels in both directions through Gifford. Coming from East Saltoun through the main street, out towards Garvald and returns through the village back towards East Saltoun. Vehicles cannot cross the course. Vehicles parked in the vicinity of the cricket ground will have access to the A1 and Haddington via Cockles Brae. Garvald 2 nd July 07:30 – 12:30 Vehicles will be able to access the village from the north east, via the B6370 for the A1 and other destinations. There is no access directly west towards Gifford. Humbie 2 nd July 08:00 – 13:00 Access west on the B6368 is available at all times to the A68 for all destinations. There is no crossing of the bike route via the B6371 and B6368 north. Cousland 2 nd July 08:00 – 13:00 The bike course travels directly through the village from east to west on Hadfast Rd. There will be no vehicle access along the Rd during this period. Vehicles have access to and from the village via Southfield Rd, towards the A68 and north to the A6124 towards Crossgatehall. Est. 06:30 – 10:30 The B1348 from Appin Drive through to A198 Lyars Road, Longniddry is closed. Access is available via B1361 & A198 up to Longniddry or via the A1.

Aberlady2nd July

06:30 – 10:30 There is no through route between Aberlady and Longniddry using the A198 or A6137. A diversion is available at all times via Drem and the A1.

Longniddry2nd July

06:30 – 10:30

The course uses B1348 Links Road and A198 Lyars Road on to the B1377 heading east. There is no access along the B1348, A198 or B1377 during this time. Access is available to Longniddry via the A1 Bankton junction.

Gullane, Dirleton, Drem

2nd July 06:30 – 10:30

There is no access along the A198 or A6137. Gullane access and egress is via Drem, B1377 and following signs for Chester Hill Fort using A1 at Abbotsview Junction.

The bike course travels directly through the village from east to west on Hadfast Rd. There will be no vehicle access along the Rd during this period. Vehicles have access to and from the village via Southfield Rd, towards the A68 and north to the A6124 towards Crossgatehall.

Whitecraig 2nd July

No vehicle access from the Old Craighall Estate to the Newton Estate A6106. Residential access will only be possible from the west via. A6016 which can be accessed from the A1 & A6095 Fort Kinnaird.

2nd July 08:30 – 13:45
