    1 Overview

In general, WCDMA system is consisting of Core Network (CN), UMTS Terrestrial RadioAccess Network (UTRAN) and User Equipment (UE). UTRAN has two network elements:Node B and RNC. Iub is defined as the interface between RNC and Node B. Fig 1shows the position of RNC in WCDMA system.

Figure 1 RNC in WCDMA system

RNC connects other equipments via the following interfaces:

    Iub interface to Node B

    Iu-CS interface to MSC/MSC Server

    Iu-PS interface to SGSN

    Iur interface to other RNC

The main functionalities of RNC include:

System information broadcast and UE access control

Mobility management, such as handover etc.

Radio Resource Management such as power control, cell resource allocation etc.

R99/R4/R5/R6/R7/R8. At the same time, ZXWR RNC provides series standardinterfaces including Iu, Iub, Iur etc, supporting to connect with other venders equipmentssuch as CN, RNC etc.

    2 Highlight Features

The ZXWR products always aim at saving customers investment in 3G products byoffering a large capacity and linear expandable system once and for all. This facilitateshigh density 3G services. The RNC adopts distributing design, separates control planefrom user plane, interface from application, supports ATM protocol stack, it also supportsall IP UTRAN. The RNC system has the following features:

2.1 Large Capacity and High Expandability

The RNC is designed to adapt service increment and various traffic environments. Itprovides a large capacity and is easy to be expanded. The data throughput is up to 9.6Gbps and maximum traffic is 76800Erl. The control plane and the user plane of the RNCare in distributed mode so there is no bottleneck for centralized processing in the entiresystem. The processing resources of control plane and user plane are linear expandableaccording to the capacity increment requirement.

2.2 IP Architecture Design, High Efficiency

Base on the all IP switching platform, data transmission is high efficient and flexible. Thehigh performance packet data management platform ensures the system non-blockingdata transaction capability. Comparing with ATM-based platform, it features convenientmaintenance and configuration, flexible expandability, higher transmission efficiency, and agile transmission mechanism, which can meets the future requirements ofincreasing mobile data services.

    2.3 Highreliability

The RNC has high reliability and stability. The system is based on redundancy design. So there is no single point of failure. The system supports online software download andthere is no need to reboot after version upgrade.

    2.4 Outstandingradioresource management

ZTE owns dozens of patents on radio resource management of the RNC. It supportsautomatic optimization of radio parameters and can intelligently allocate and scheduleradio resource priorities according to network load situation and QoS level.

The layout of the rack shall maintain the overall symmetry. Under the premise to ensurethe performance indices and thermal design requirements, the gravity center shall belowered as much as possible to improve the overall stability. In normal conditions, theequipment shall not be inverted on a 10 degrees tilt platform. The shell of the equipment

Security protection grade is IP20 (2indicates that prevents the object which is biggerthan 12mm such as finger to insert into. And 0 indicates that has no special waterprotection)

    Steel Ball Test

Such test can be done by using the integrity rack shell of sample or the other biggest

area of not enhanced part: one 500g steel ball will free fall from 1.3m height to hit the upsurface of the equipment, the case has no clearly indent. Or the 500g steel ball with1.3m line as a horizontal pendulum to hit the beside surface of the equipment, if there isindent damage or scratch, but it does not affect security, water resistant, and it alsocan endure corresponding anti- electric strength, this test is passed.

    Lightning Protection

The system provides lightning protection measures. The working ground and theprotection ground are reliable with the grounding resistance of the protection ground lessthan 1 ohm. The protection grounding terminals are anti-corrosive; the insulating layer ofthe grounding conductor is yellow-green. There is tooth-shape washer for the connectionbetween the protection ground and the screw of shell (or PCB) to make the protection

    group more reliable and stable.
