If you can do me afavor there by having me transferred to Calamba,recommend me to the Inspector General ofCommunications, the Most Illustrious Andrs deCaupa. Im sure Don Paciano will also write youabout me. They will certainly not listen to Mr. Builat Manila, so you please work it out there at the

    My Dear Brother,

    Our sadness at first has given way to endless joy in our heart.Every time we receive your letters we thank the Almighty

    that nothing untoward has happened to you, despite thegreat distance that separates us. Dont resent our failure towrite you in the last mail. Even though we dont write you, wedont forget you a singe moment, especially in our prayers tothe Lord and the Virgin. The children also are always talking

    about you during their play. I often hear the three E., A., andAntonio, (1) discussing you. And when they hear your namementioned in our conversations, they at once ask if you arecoming home and where you are. Icang is good, because shecan say that you are at Barcelona; E. says Colombo, andAntonia, Paa; (2) and so the three often have an argument;they cannot agree about you.

    Mara, Pangoy, and Trining say that they will notwrite you for the present because they have

    nothing more to tell you, as we have exhausted allthe news. As you already know, here we lacknews, so that our letters to you are devoid of newsexcept family ones. However, the plague, that issaid to be in Manila, has not yet reached our town,

    thank God. No one has yet died among ourfriends. T. Luis has a difficult ailment; he has goneto Manila for treatment but he has not improved.Icang has not yet become stout since you left;

    Chabeng is like a melon.

Dont expect them to write you becausetheir eyes are already weak. Dont fail to includethem in your prayers and ask the Lord to grantthem a long life and strength so that on your

    return you may receive the tight embrace andblessing of our dearest parents.

    Your sister who esteems you tenderly.

    Dearest Brother,I have read that you want to hear the Tagaloglanguage, or our language, in order that you maynot forget your origin and we your brothers. Papa

    always says, whenever we talk about you, thatperhaps you will stay there so long that you may notsee each other before he leaves this world. I wasgoing to write you long ago, but I thought that myletter might reach Barcelona ahead of you.Moreover, every time I pick up your letters, I cannothold my tears,

    especially the first one you wrote on yourdeparture in which you said that you passed byhere Monday morning when you were going downto Manila and as I was sleeping you did not seeme any more. And then Mama says that you arecarrying little money, so that I m always thinkingof how you are getting along. For this reason, I

    want to send you a diamond ring and write me towhom I should send it, so that it may reach youthere. We are well, thank God; I have no ailmentof any kind; what I don t know is whether I shallget over the difficulties ahead.

    from Sta. Cruz stayed here a long time -- twoweeks. Aunt Betang did not come because shehad guests she could not leave behind. Ill writeyou longer later because the bearer is in a hurry.
