Gute News Riverside Jr.-Sr. High School (Dave Gute, Principal)

As the temperature changes outside and the Jr. – Sr. High School building contin-ues to be extremely difficult to regulate the heat, I remain very anxious to be in the new building. I receive complaints daily from students and the staff about the temperature in the building and I usually respond with something about the new school. This is my 7th year working from this school and I envy those staff mem-bers that have worked here longer than I have. Teachers generally don’t ever know what to expect the climate in their rooms to be like when they enter the

building this time of year.

The end of the first semester will be here very soon. At the high school, students will take semester tests. During those days, we have Open Campus. This year those days are Friday, December 18th and Monday, December 21st. Open Cam-pus allows the students to come to school for their tests only. They do not have to eat lunch at school. However, there are some qualifications the students must meet to be eligible and only those students will receive an Open Campus form. To be eligible a student must have had no suspensions (in-school or out of school), no failing grades, have all fines and dues paid, all detentions served as well as any Saturday Schools and community service completed. In addition, if your stu-dent is not in a sport or PE, they must have all their physical activity forms turned in. If your student is eligible, he/she will be given one of these forms. Be Watch-ing! The Junior High students will have a normal schedule during this time and they will not be allowed to leave school. I don’t know if this tradition will contin-ue when we move to the new building. Many students walk to eating establish-

ments and we will not allow students to walk down the highway in the future.

Enjoy your holidays.

November Top Dawgs (Holly Hinkhouse)

Otis Matejka, Hayley Haines, and Brogan Allensworth (pictured above) were named Top Dawgs for the month of November. Each month, staff chooses

three students for the Top Dawg award.

Otis is described as a hard-working young man with a unique sense of humor. He is active in school events and recently his determination paid off when he

earned a trip to the state cross country meet.

Hayley is known for her smile and her politeness. She patiently tackles new challenges as in being a member of the color guard for the band and is a great volunteer. Hayley is further described as a young lady who is a hard

worker and is very positive.

Brogan is noted for his willingness to help others and works well inde-

pendently as well as with his peers.

All three students were commended for their leadership qualities.

They were rewarded with preferred parking all month as well as being first in lunch line for the entire month. The students also receive 2% extra credit in

a class of their choice and a $1 al a carte ticket.

Congratulations, kids!

Elementary and Intermediate News (Jamie Meek, Principal)

With the Christmas Break right ahead of us we are nearing the halfway point of our 2015-2016 school year. So far this has been a pretty eventful year and in both of my buildings we have had a lot of activities to keep us all on our toes! The food drive just wrapped up and we are so blessed that our communities can reach out and help those in our own communities who are in need. Way to go Bulldogs! Be sure to check out the activities calendar for upcoming events for all of our schools: Jr. High Boys Basket-ball, JV and Varsity boys and girls basketball, Wrestling, Band and Choir concerts, and

other district events.

*Elementary School

I am not sure if this will make it to your mailboxes prior to the elementary Christmas concert, but I am excited to see what Mrs. Kramer has in store for us this year! Every year she brings all of our students together to provide a great show. Getting almost 250 students to move and sing at the same time is amazing. The gymnasium at the

Jr/Sr High School will be full and ready to listen to everyone sing and dance!

*Intermediate School

I caught a small sample of the 4th-6th grade music classrooms and 5th and 6th band the other day and I am excited to see the performance planned for Monday, Decem-ber 7, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the Intermediate school in Carson. They sound awe-some! As I see these teachers work with our students, the growth they have made from the beginning of the year is tremendous! It is a testament to their hard work and

also the hard work of your children when they are with Mrs. Brandon and Ms. Burns.

Please not wait until the February Parent-Teacher conferences to ask questions about your child’s progress in academics or maybe some behaviors that you are seeing at home that might be occurring at school. I have spent the time this year encouraging staff to call or email home as much as possible if they have a question or to just say how great your child is doing. Please feel like you can do the same. The more staff and families are on the same page, the more successful a student will be. Enjoy the

holiday break.

Haunted House Fun (Callie Kallsen)

On October 29th the Jr. High Student Council held a Haunted House in the basement of the Jr. High/High School building. The students spent the week planning and putting it together and over 120 students went through the Haunted House. The student council did an awesome job and everyone enjoyed it! We have

included pictures of students who helped to make this activity a success (photos submitted by Callie Kallsen)

The Intermediate School CASH FOR STUDENTS program started Tuesday, Sep-

tember 1, and continues through Thursday, December 31, 2015, and includes all fif-

teen Omaha/Council Bluffs/Plattsmouth Hy-Vee stores. Here's how it works:

Parents, grandparents, friends, staff, and administrators shop at any of

the fifteen Omaha/Council Bluffs/Plattsmouth Hy-Vee Stores. Turn your receipts into your

favorite student or teacher as you know we will be having a competition between which class col-

lects most $$.

Hy-Vee records and totals the receipts collected by each school and agrees to donate $ 1.00 for

every $200.00 spent. The maximum award to be donated per school is $2,000.00

The Check Riverside Intermediate School received last year was $198.00.

FCCLA Students Attend District Meeting (Sara Fenske)
