This term A6 and B1 have been learning about Australian animals. We have been working on a number of projects based around our new and exciting knowledge on Australian animals. Students have created PowerPoint presentations, animal reports, electronic books and dioramas for their favourite animal. We engaged with numerous Australian texts and imagery during shared and guided reading lessons. Year One students also reflected upon their Zoo Excursion they attended earlier in the year as a source of inspiration for discussions. It was great to see both classes working so cooperatively together to present an outstanding Australian animal tour. All students took such pride in their individual parts and assisted one another throughout the rehearsal process. Fantastic job A6 and B1!

On Friday 10 November we held our Remembrance Day Assembly.

In the lead up to the day our students discussed the difference between ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day and participated in a number of activities with their class. Each Learning Block came together to create a wreath with flowers and shrubs kindly donated by our Rivergums Community, which were laid at the ceremony. In Art, all students made their own poppy and these were planted on the grassed area behind the flagpoles to create a field of poppies.

We were luck enough to have several distinguished guests in attendance and would like to thank: Warrant Officer Andrew Bertoncin Major Lyndon Jackson Lee Downham, Baldivis Ward Councillor Matt Whitfield, Baldivis Ward Councillor Rivergums Board Members Rachael Lemon, Rhys Pukehika and Jane Wilson

We were incredibly proud of our students’ conduct throughout the service.

Remembrance Day Service

Remembrance Day

-Lest We Forget-

I am going to war, it is my turn now

I’m in my clean but heavy uniform

I walk up to the ship with pride

I already miss my dear family so much

I run leaping over blood, corpses and landmines

Gunfire and explosions is all that I can hear

Nurses everywhere helping my injured mates

Ear-piercing screams echoing in my mind

My mates help me get through this horrible event

I know they will always have my back

They comfort me when I am tired and emotional

I’m grateful for my fellow soldiers

Congratulations

This past week our school choir enjoyed an incursion with the Safety Bay Senior High School Band. We thoroughly enjoyed the event and thank all of the Safety Bay Senior High School Band students for coming along to show us their performance prowess. In Week 9 our school choir are looking forward to singing for the Year 6’s at the Presentation Assembly and we welcome choir families to attend. In class we are learning body percussion, that being the use of our bodies as an instrument. It is an extremely accessible instrument, costs nothing and can be used in a variety of ways. It is a great format for internalising fundamental music concepts such ash rhythm, beat and tempo. Ask your child for a demonstration!
