The newsletter of the Crescent Boat Club
River Currents
Hello! Happy Summer!
Hoping all of you and your families are enjoying the summer boating season.
In less than 3 weeks, the island will be transformed to accommodate our Labor Day Weekend. This is a major
undertaking that requires lots of member participation. Scheduling for work is divided into segments so that
everyone has time to enjoy the festivities. However, if you need hours, it’s your opportunity to get them. Not
only is it a fun tradition, it is our major fund raiser. Along with our other events, it helps keep the dues and
dockage at their current rates. Hope to see you there!
Following a non-member launching their boat, it was decided to add a chain with a padlock across the launch
ramp. An additional camera will be added facing the causeway and boat launch area.
When you are at the clubhouse, check the bulletin board for potential probationary ... (continued on page 2)

membership applications. If someone stops and would like information about joining, take the time to tell
them a little about the club, show them around and tell them how to obtain an application from the website
if there are none available in the clubhouse.
The Board has been meeting all summer and our insurance and liquor license renewals are well underway.
We are also exploring upgrading the cash register, scanner and credit card machine.
See you at the Membership Meetings which will resume on September 8.
Our best ideas come from our membership. Do not hesitate to contact me with any ideas, comments or
concerns you have [email protected] or call me at 518-209-2209!
Here’s to many great adventures!

Parking on the hill
During the boating season, members are allowed
to park their boat trailers and water craft only on
the hill.
Mowing under this stored equipment is
responsibility of the owners, not the grounds
committee.
NOTE: For the Labor Day weekend, items on the
hill need to be removed and taken home.

Labor Day Planning Labor Day is only a couple weeks away and we are still needing a lot of help! As you know, the Labor Day Weekend event is our largest event and a big money maker for the club. Please take a few minutes to flip through the volunteer sheet on the bulletin board in the clubhouse and sign up for one or two spots. This is a great opportunity to make up some hours towards your yearly obligation. As mentioned before, we going to have a Chinese Auction and therefore, we need donations of "like new" items (preferably boat/marine related) for the "gifts." Take a look through your boat and home to see if you have any items to give. Please let Nikki Shakerley know if you drop off anything at the club so she can collect them, wrap them, and take inventory. Reservations are needed soon in order to get an accurate head count and order enough food. Please email [email protected] with your family's RSVP. If you would rather, there are paper reservation forms that you can put in the Monte Carlo on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. Members may pay when you arrive for the event. Don't forget to let us know if you want lobster or a dozen steamed clams for $10 each! Ed Pearson is organizing a grounds clean-up the weekend of 8/24-8/25. If you are around, he could use your help!

Work Hours Work hours have been rolled up into the July report and have been posted in the notice board just inside the clubhouse door and in the Member Content area of the web site. If you have carried out work at the club and not logged it, please do so during your next visit. Remember that your work hours obligation of 25 for singles and 50 for families is a minimum and not a limit or all you can do! It takes a lot more than the 3000 hours minimum to run and maintain the club and a number members put in many more hours—we have exceeded the 3000 by end of July, demonstrating it takes a lot to run your club. We’re all busy and want to make the most of the boating season but please consider opportunities to contribute more hours towards the club. It doesn’t take much to add up but has a big impact. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

Committee Updates Docks (Greg Jordan)
All extinguisher are in place on docks that is all blue lights have extinguishers. Extinguishers will be tested in
April next year and put out with dock in.
I plan a work party in August to work on repair of mains. Fingers are the responsible boat slip member unless
that person talks to me and it has to come out.
Water lines are still leaking most are leaking from the blue fittings working on getting a replacement for that
fitting.
House (Tammy St. Louis)
The Ice Machine has been cleaned and is now re-producing ice in the machine. Once is it full we may wish to
consider bagging ice and loading it in the outdoor freezer. Thank you to Mark and Chris for cleaning it.
I am looking for volunteers to assist with house duties. I could use assistance with inside bathrooms (no one is
signed up for August) and with house floors.
Grounds (Ed Pearson)
The fire temporary fire pit still has not been used. I haven't gone further with it. I am not sure it is something
that will be used.
The playground status: I am waiting for Kevin to let me know when he has the time to get it.
I have had two folks mention interest. I have purchased 10 blocks to get started. I will follow up with them
regarding a plan. Up
The status of the hill is a couple of the large boats have been removed allowing me to rearrange things up
there to get all of the equipment on the west side of the hill. I will be asking anyone able to remove their items
prior to the general cleanup the weekend prior to Labor day.

Web/IT/Technology (Ian Coulthard)
The new thermostat has been installed that controls the boiler and main A/C comes with an occupancy sensor
so that temperature setpoints are changed to cooler (winter) or warmer (summer) setting when no one is in the
clubhouse. I am still fine tuning the system and it also has some self learning but you can control the setpoint
up and down as you wish like the old thermostat. While the sensor will detect no occupancy, it’s always good
practice to revert the setpoint back to 68/78 as you leave the building as the last out. Note however the
thermostat on the wall near the office controlling the supplementary A/C (the 2 ceiling mounted units) is
specific to the unit and cannot be linked to another smart thermostat so remember to check and set this back
when leaving.
Facebook (Kyle Bisnett)
Kids Club (Nikki Shakerley) I am collecting new and like new items for the Labor Day Chinese Auction. With people Spring Cleaning and
getting their boats ready, you may come across things you don't want anymore that would be ideal to provide
for the auction.
