QUEENSLAND FLOOD RELIEF FUNDRAISER—TOMORROW
Pancake Tuesday, 5th March, at RECESS—Organised by Year 7/8 Snowy class
It’s not too late to order these tomorrow. Spare Order forms are available in the office, just bring
your money in and complete your order.
Tomorrow is Pancake Day
So, why do we have Pancake Day? Well, it is a
symbol that has been used to signify the beginning
of Lent. Traditionally, people would fast during
Lent and so they would use up all the things in
their cupboards before entering this period of
fasting, so they had a feast on this day.
Lent is the 40 days (not counting Sundays) from
Ash Wednesday until Easter and it symbolises the
40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness. People
use Lent to focus on several things, especially
focusing on repentance, refocusing on our
relationship with God, doing things for others and
giving up something. It is a time of subtraction
and addition – many people choose to give up
something during Lent and to add more time in
prayer or studying the word or doing something
for others.
Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness and during
this time he was tempted by Satan; we face many
temptations in our lives, some that are obvious
and some that are very subtle and we have to be
careful that we are alert to temptations that may
seem harmless. How much time do we spend on
social media; how much time do we spend
watching TV; is our footy team more important
than worship or do we get taken in by advertising
and thinking that we just “have” to have that
latest thing? Lent is a time to especially give more
time to our Lord and to spend time thinking and
reflecting on our lives and how we are living
them. This Lent, I challenge each of us to take the
time to take
notice of
what God is
doing in your
life, Let God
speak to you
and seek His
plan and
direction for
your life.

facilitate the smooth collection of students for all.

Australian Government Collection of
Student Residential Address Information
Attached to last week’s Newsletter was a notice from the
Australian Government advising parents and guardians that
they have requested us to supply your address related
details to assist them in assessing funding arrangements. This
is something that all non-government schools are doing at
this time and the attached notice, with frequently asked
questions, provide some helpful background. You don’t
need to do anything except advise us if you suspect our
records of your family details are not up to date. Please also
contact the school office if you have any other question re-
lated to this.

Theatre Sports Workshop
On Wednesday last, the Year 7 and 8 Theatre Sports students of RCCC had the awesome opportunity to participate
in an annual workshop that was held at Creek Street Christian College in Bendigo and organised under the
management of the CSEN (Christian Schools Events Network). The workshop was led by Allen Dickson, who is a
professional dramatist and expert in the discipline of Theatre Sports; Allen was extraordinarily talented and
entertaining for the students’ learning and engagement. The students learnt over 20 different games and activities
that allowed them to explore and refine their imagination, body coordination and self confidence in front of their
peers and audience.
A special thanks to the CSEN (Christian Schools Events Network), Creek Street Christian College, our Principal Peter
Nelson and finally Jenny Miller; for driving us down there and encouraging the students throughout the course of
the day to be their best and glorify our college under God’s precious name.
Written by Mr Peter Schuller (Grade 3~6 Primary teacher and Art teacher).
Schools Clean Up Day
It was Schools Clean Up Day last
Friday and we were out as a
school, straight after our weekly
Assembly, to clean up the school
ground, part of Rotary Park and
different areas along Campaspe
Ave. It was quite hot out there
but we were able to clean up
quite a lot of rubbish that others
had thoughtlessly discarded.
Thanks for everyone’s assistance
in this work and the picture here
shows the Swan class after their
time in Rotary Park.

Peter Walsh @ RCCC
Peter Walsh, Member for Murray Plains and Leader of the Nationals, came to RCCC last
Thursday to recognise and encourage Narelle Foley and Sara Thompson as our Beacon Leaders
for 2019. It was a special time together with Narelle and Sara representing the school in a very
good manner.
Our Preps will be at school every day this week, and into the future, after their
Wednesday rest days concluded last week.
Our next Newsletter will be distributed on Tuesday 12th March due to Monday being a
Public Holiday.

7 Benefits of SLEEP
Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to our physical health and emotional well-being. That’s why
the benefits of a good night’s good sleep should never be underestimated and why getting
proper rest on a regular basis is essential for optimum health and well-being.
1. Sleep helps reduce stress
If your body doesn’t get enough sleep, it can react by producing high levels of stress hormones, which are a natural result of today’s faster paced lifestyles. Deep and regular sleep can help prevent this.
2. Sleep can improve your memory
Ever noticed that when you’re really tired it’s harder to remember things? Basically this is your brain telling you that it’s not getting enough sleep. When you sleep well, your body may be resting but your brain is busy organising and storing memories. So getting more quality sleep will help you remember and process things better.
3. Sleep helps your body to fight back
While you’re sleeping your body is producing extra protein molecules that can strengthen your ability to fight infection. So if you’re feeling a bit run down and you don’t want it to turn into a full-blown cold, go to bed early and get lots of rest.
4. Sleep can help you maintain your weight
Unfortunately, sleep won’t directly make you lose weight, but it can help you keep it under control by regulating the hormones that affect your appetite and reducing your cravings for high calorie foods.
5. Sleep puts you in a better mood
Lack of sleep can make us more agitated, so we’re more likely to snap at the boss or be grumpy with a loved one, neither of which is a good thing. The better you sleep the better your ability to stay, calm, controlled and reasonable.
6. Sleep can be a painkiller
If you’re suffering pain from a recent injury like a sprained ankle, getting plenty of sleep can actually make you hurt less. Many studies have shown a link between sleep loss and a lower pain threshold. Basically the more sleep you get the less pain you might be in.
7. Sleep can make you smarter
Along with a great night’s sleep, grabbing a quick nap in the daytime can contribute towards making your brain more effective and productive. You will feel sharper, more attentive and focused throughout the day.
