The risk management of Heavy vehicles, plant and equipment is an issue of
increasing importance in the constructionindustry with over 1,100 items of plant andequipment reported to police as stoleneach year. Less than 50 per cent arerecovered. The cost is estimated to be upto $50 Million Dollars a year across thecountry and over $1 Billion internationally.

FactorsFactors that facilitate plant and equipment theft include the:
Vulnerability of construction and storage sites to attack during
non-working hours; Absence of a formal recording system of identifying information
for individual items to allow finance companies, insurers, traders orprivate buyers to establish an items authenticity prior to purchase;
and It is a fact that most thieves are thought to have specialist industry
knowledge which they apply in the theft, retention and sale ofstolen equipment and related fraud.
Increasing the plant and equipment recovery rate and reducing therisk can be achieved in two ways, Whole Of Vehicle Marking
(WOVM) and GPS tracking equipment.

Research indicates Micro Dots have had an impact on vehicleprofessional theft rates wherever they have been used, and are
one of the most significant and effective anti-theft measures so fardeveloped. The dots, which are less than 1 mm across, are carried
in an adhesive that fluoresces under UV light which identifies atreated area and reveals an Encoded registration number in the dot
.

GPS Tracking of FleetResearch shows GPS fleet management equipment have also had
an impact with over $12 Million in plant and equipment recovery.Other applications of the GPS Fleet Management System areused to reduce costs and increase efficiency over a number of
areas, such as monitoring vehicle performance , Trackmaintenance issues, managing driver fatigue, improving customerservice as well as ensure compliance with Workplace Health and
Safety Issues. With the recent theft of a milk tanker in Melbourne with a full loadof milk, the GPS notified the owner of unusual activity of the primemover and within two hours the vehicle and its load was recovered
to the relief of the owners.
The increase in Skid steer loaders being stolen are an attractivetarget with no consistent nationwide identification system of theseitems. Protection of you plant and equipment will minimise the risk
of loss of downtime in management of your fleet movements.
