Rio Verde Newcomers Group Celebrates First AnniversaryIn July 2017, an idea to help women new to Rio Verde establish a social network and some new friendships was born. Tried as an experiment to determine interest, Tonie Lindenberger and Marty Olson collaborated to initiate a “welcome” luncheon. “This activity was especially important for women who are non-golfers. Golfers have the advantage of an instant network of friends and social contacts. We did not want ladies who don’t golf to feel isolated.” We’ve found approximately half of the women who have attended a luncheon do not play golf, hence our objective of helping them integrate into the community has been accomplished.” More Activities Planned for NewcomersTo date, 56 women new to Rio Verde have attended a luncheon. New this year, additional activities have been planned at the request of luncheon attendees, including a field trip to Sunshine Acres and a progressive lunch in the homes of several newcomers. “Our hope is that interest will continue to grow, and we can add more activities that appeal to ladies new to the community, golfers and non-golfers alike.” Here’s How to Sign Up for a LuncheonIf you have lived in Rio Verde one year or less and want to attend a luncheon, contact Tonie Lindenberger at 480-361-8958, or Marty Olson at 602-740-6515.July 25 LuncheonSix ladies new to Rio Verde pictured above were officially welcomed to the community with a luncheon on July 25. Following lunch, they were provided with an orientation to the community.

Birds Love Rio Verde...Here are just two of the many birds seen in Rio Verde every day:From Beth Evans: This owl just flew into our window with a very loud thud. He hopped up on the chair, collected himself for a few moments and then flew safely away. From Susan Murphy: This juvenile Harris Hawk has been visiting my birdbath daily for a couple of months now. This photo was taken in late July when the temperature was 116 degrees just after I had freshened the birdbath.I don’t know if the hawk is watching me freshen every afternoon but lately it has come right after doing so. You can tell it’s hot! My husband said that they stand on one foot to keep cooler.
