INTERPRETATIONofthePROJECTTheopportunitytodevelopsite-specificartworksfortheStanleyA.RingerParkisbothuniqueandinspiring.Multipledesignfeatureshavebeenselectedforenhancementinthisiconicpark–signage,lighting,seatingandacontemplativearea.Theactive,multi-useparkisanurbanoasiswherelargenumbersofpeoplegather.Thegreenspaceincludesawiderangeofnaturalelements:openmeadows,urbanwildsandrockyoutcrops.Thecallforartrepresentsforwardthinkingurbanplanning–therevitalizationofthePark.Thiseffortrepresentsaninvestmentintheoverallcommunityandsincerecommitmenttoitsbetterment.Thedesignelementsmusthaveameaningfulandauthenticconnectiontoresidentsandvisitorsalikeandbecomeanintegralpartofthediverselocalcultureandcommunity.Itwillcreateameaningfulsenseofplace–avisualidentity-wherepersonalexperiencequicklybecomesamemory.TheenhancementandbettermentoftheParkwillwelcomeandembraceresidentsandvisitorsalike-creatingadialoguebetweentheParkandthecommunity.IncreasedaccesstotheParkwillcultivatecommunityinvolvement,prideandsupport.Itwillserveseveralgenerationsofcitizensandenrichcountlesslives.ThemotivatinggoalfortheproposedartworkisthecelebrationofthelivesanddedicationoftheHonorees.Theseexemplaryleadersrepresenttwoentirelydifferentcenturies.ThePark’snamesakeisthewarhero,StanleyA.Ringer.Helivedintheearly20thcentury.Theotherhonorees,WilliamMargolin(aka“Snoopy”),BrianHonan(aka“Chuckles”)&DawnnJaffier(the“BigFun”)representthe21stcentury.Theartworkshouldincorporatethehistoryandculturalheritageofbothofthesegroupswithavibrancyofdesignthatistraditionalyetmodern.THEMESTheprimarythemeformyproposeddesignsistheoaktreeandleaves.ItisthenationaltreeoftheUnitedStatesandalogoforBoston’sDepartmentofParksandRecreation.Thepropertiesoftheoakrepresentgreatstrengthanddiversity,growingfromasmallacornavasttree.Themanybranchesreachskywardwitheverypassingyear.Thefallingleavesrepresentthepassageoftime.Mydesigndevelopmentwasbasedonaninterpretationofthesenaturalshapes.DESIGNAPPROACH&COMMUNITYDECISIONMAKINGThedesignelementsthatIhaveproposedareaframeworkforcommunityinput.Thecommunitywoulddeterminethefinaldesigns.Thisincludes:colors,locationandplacement,wordingonthesigns,andwordingonthecommemorativeplaque.DESIGNELEMENTSSHOWNINPRELIMARYIMAGESThefollowingphotosshowmyapproachtotheartworkproposedfortheStanleyA.RingerPark.
