• The Mariner kills an Albatross that has followed his ship. The sailors are angry that he has done so.
• He believes it was bringing along the fog.
• Though its arguable that he killed the Albatross because he could.

How is the Mariner punished?
• Forced to wear the dead albatross on his neck as a sign of regret
• Driven by guilt, he wanders around the world to tell his story and teach a lesson to those he meets
Who he is telling his story to and why
The mariner tells his story to a man who is on his way to a wedding ceremony. He is driven to tell his story to anyone which is why he is reciting the story to this wedding guest.
