Background to today (1)

Government consulted on the Right to Control (Attempt to put into action what the Individual

Budget pilots didnt quite manage to) What ECDP did:

We produced a briefing on the Right to Control Engagement / consultation event to inform response Published response to government

More choice and control for disabled people

To inform, shape and direct the work, use the: Lived experience of disabled people Expertise of organisations like ECDP

Essex successfully bid to become one of the 8Trailblazers

ECDP heavily involved in shaping and writing this bid

Set up structure to take the work forward ECDP chairing the Programme Board ECDP on Core Project Team

ECDP establishing Service User Reference Group

Whats happened so far? Work to bring together different partners

Work to put in place the behind-the-scenes

Shifts the balance of power

Recognises disabled people are experts

Disabled people have right to choice and control

Arranges services / funding around the individual,rather than vice versa

Disabled people take control of who providesservices and how they receive them
