Counseling and Guidance UpdateAHC CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT Area high school students can now jump start their college education without leaving their high school campuses. Allan Hancock College has launched a Concurrent Enrollment pilot program at five area high schools. Students at Cabrillo, Santa Ynez, St. Joseph, Santa Maria, and Pioneer Valley high schools can simultaneously receive high school and college credit by registering for courses that will be taught by college-approved faculty at each school. We hope to begin concurrent enrollment classes at RHS for the 2016- 17 school year. “This is an incredible deal because students could potentially complete 12 units of college courses by the time they graduate high school, which is equivalent to a full semester’s worth of college classes,” said Associate Superintendent/ Vice President of Academic Affairs George A. Railey, Jr., Ed.D. “The best part is it’s free for most students and parents.” For more information, contact the college’s Admissions and Records office at (805) 922-6966 ext. 3248 or admissions_help@ hancockcollege.edu.What’s been happening?• Classroom and group presentations to 8th grade students at OJHS, LJHS, KMJHS,

Blochman, Olga Reed, Arellanes and Fesler• Registration nights were held for all incoming 9th graders for next year• Registration in classrooms for all current students for next year• Cash for College Nights• Extended Career Center hours and Saturday hours to assist students with FAFSA• Informational meetings are AHC regarding concurrent enrollment and Get

Stay Focused!• Gene Rickman and Vicki Dirkes attended an Aeries training on Master Scheduling• Incoming 9th grade math and ELA Placement testing• Incoming 9th grade English Learner placement testing• Second graduation status letter sent to all Seniors• Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) given and interpretation

session held• College Recommendation letters written• Scholarship application and information assistance• AHC Presentations in classrooms• Continuation of work on Attention to Attendance and the SARB process• 10th Grade Career Cruising in the classroomsWhat’s coming up• AP/Honors parent information night on March 16 @ 6PM (if interested in attending

It’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.

A message from ASB President, Eden Hood In my four years in ASB Leadership, I have grown immensely as a student and a person. I guarantee that anyone who takes this class will come out a better version of yourself.Student were asked to respond to two questions:• Question #1 - Why should students sign-up for ASB Leadership? “As a freshman, I decided to join ASB to learn more about my school. It was one
